Winter Depression

Has been raining constantly for three straight days. Even worse than the normal showers for the last month. I don't ride in the rain so I have been getting a little down. I love the NorthWet but it is so wet and dreary in the winter. I can't wait for spring. I think my wife and I would seriously consider moving to Arizona in a few years :) Being on all the forums has cheered me up a bit and seeing you guys riding in the sun in January doesn't make me jealous it gives me hope! This will just be my 3rd year back on the bike, I think I'm hooked. I hope to double my pathetic number of miles I rode last year. Looks like my life will be settled enough to do it. I think I'm gonna pull the bike out in the driveway and fire it up. Then pull off my saddlebags- one of those chrome strips is coming off a little. Maybe all just set on the seat and dream for a little lol. I haven't met many other enthusiasts but I plan on changing that this year. Thanks for reading and keep the sunny side up! :)

I had 27 days of rain in June last.... 18 more of July. If you lived here in New Hampsta you would learn to ride in rain....
Out here we say If you don't ride in rain, you don't ride.

every one of them days of rain was 1"+ mostly 2" +.

We broke the all time record for the wettest month. Over 25" of rain in December. I was able to ride 2 days last month. This weekend won't be very good for riding with the temperature coming down into the teens Friday night and not getting out of the 30's during the day Saturday. We're not used to that over here in the Deep South.

oddly NH has been warmer that even places in Fla as of late... I had almost 40 here yesterday, and 36 today as a high.

Less snow too, a few measly little falls of the white stuff, and the 1 decent fall has all combined to be a foot.. Only plowed twice so far and never yet shoveled the damnned barn..

I am spendin' time dreamin about a decent sugar season.. If this weather keeps, i might go build a crude sugar shack...

There definately hasn't been much riding weather since September. Crap, October was 9 degrees below average and December was almost 15 degrees below average. November was close to normal but we have had nearly 40 inches of snow since Oct 1. Ice patches here and there and muddy roads.

Hey CJ, just multiply your few days to equal about 6 months and you have our non-riding time.

With NOAA calling the official start of El Nino this year I have been interested in watching the changes it is supposed to bring to different areas.

Typically... dry areas are more wet... and wet area less so. Temp-wise... it is supposed to provide variations from the norm as well.

So far... the temps here have been matching record-lows; but precipitation thus far has actually been more... rather than less.

In the Midwest... we could see a poor summer-season with regard to rainy weather. El Nino could provide us with more -- rather than less. We'll see. Like I said; I'll be watching how this affects us.

We'll have -10 degrees in Northern Illinois tonight... I don't expect to ride until mid-April to early May around here. I have to find other things to do to keep from going insane... and it is early yet in our six-months of ride-less weather.

Snowmobiling may help some in the meantime.

I can empathize with your winter depression. The short days really affect me negatively. The thing that saved my sanity and possibly my life was getting into fly tying. Sitting for hours several days a week in front of a high intensity lamp to light up the vise completely turned things around.

I know what S.A.D. stands for.

Get a hobby that requires you use a bright light and have fun all winter.

Hey I did buy a fly pole last year!

Also the El nino stuff...last year we had a couple feet of snow totaled in December....very unusual this year warmer with a couple feet of rain :-[
I'd take the cold clear weather over this gray any day!

The strong El Nino of 2009 is causing our unusually wet winter. I won't complain though, there were no hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico this past season.

Phoenix recorded 3.26" of precipitation in all of 2009. That's the 7th driest year on record. It's about half of what is considered normal precipitation.

What's gotta be even more depressing is when I DO call you to go for a ride....you are stuck at work.... ! There has been some ride time available up here, but only in between rain squalls... :(" title="" border="0"/>.

So far weve had a pretty good winter, not a lot of snow and what we did get has been recent. Were in a cold spell but I don't mind that, it means that I'll be out fishing on the lake soon. I figure another week and it will be thick enough for me to start driving the truck out.

Cheer up Doublel better days are ahead. It has been bitterly cold here in north Alabama for the past several days. Low tonight is expected to get down to 12 degrees fahrenheit. It hasn't gotten above freezing in almost a week. Now I know that isn't cold for you guys up north but this is Alabama.
