weak battery?

sometimes when starting, my bike will "hiccup" then start normally. i later find that the odometer and clock has reset to 1:00 and 0.0. have any of you experienced this? is this an indication of a bad
battery?

It could be a weak battery or a bad connection on either of the terminals on the battery. Try cleaning the connectors on the battery and make sure they are tight.

I've never had that happen. I ran the battery on my first Nomad for almost 4 years, I've only had my present Nomad for coming up on 3 years with the original battery.

Your problem is a new one on me.

I would say low battery condition, but can't say where with the info given. Might be wiring problems and or a low battery getting ready to say bye bye.

This does reset clocks and trip meters..

What year battery/bike are we talkin? What do you do to maintain it?

I had the same thing. Check the battery leads to see they are tight. Mine were. Then replace the battery. Do it now. The problem will go away and you won't end up stranded somewhere.

Well I don't always see eye to eye, and am running a anti sulfation auto float charger that cost a whoppin 20 bucks. I got it at walley world, and expect 8 years or more from my 06 battery for it.

The thing is I use the charger all the time. Sulfation is what kills batterys.. it is a use it or loose it proposisiton how ever you spell that word..

weak battery?

My bike has done that the last couple seasons, usually in the cooler weather. Sometimes its ok for a few days and sometimes it resets almost every start. Im due for a new battery.

Mine did that a couple times. Then about a month later it refused to turn the starter. Go to batteries plus and get a new one. I think it was between $75 and $80. Hasn't happened since.

Mine had the same symptoms. A bad chassis ground was the culprit, and checking battery connections on both ends would be the first thing I would check as mentioned above before spending the $$ on a new battery.

In your case your absolutely right. You have a new bike and although possible its highly unlikely to have a bad battery. With my bike on the other hand old age is showing its teeth.
Thats a good sight you posted about the vendor. Thanks.

weak battery?

i've got the 2003 1500fi...and as far as i know its the original battery.
it does this really only in cold weather. it did it a few times before and a trickle charger fixed it. all connections are clean and tight. i guess a new battery is in order. 6+ years on a battery, i shouldn't complain!!

Mine is also an 03 FI. My battery finally died about two months ago. 48000 miles and six years is better than most. Yours is ready to be replaced.

I have a 2003 as well (13k). I use the battery tender everytime I park it.

I did have the whole clock resetting problem as well but it has gone away since I started using the tender.

For those interested in the longest possible life of these batterys, I would suggest the new tyoe shumaker. It has anti sulfation pulse, which will assist in the longest possible life of a good battery and help a battery that is weaker.

These are cheap at 20 bucks in walley world...

The Nomad battery has to do a lot at any start and more so in a cold start, not to mention all the junk added on at cold start time, if you run passing lamps and or other high draw items that come on at that time.
