Extended Warranty, still deciding ?

The obvious question concerning to buy an extended warranty is whether or not I plan on keeping my Nomad. If they keep dropping the ball in the Kawasaki R & D department, it is making that decision easier to make. Either keep my bike or change brands. As to the question of the warranty offered by KAWASAKI, my factory Warr. ends as 3/10. Are there any competitively priced, after market warranties out there that are worth checking out? So far I have 6K on a 2007 and all that has gone wrong has been a low oil pressure warning light which has been fixed. Thanks for any info you might have on this matter. Sincerely, Mark

Mark, Fremont Kawi in Colorado sells the 4 year extended warranties for under $400.

It's the same kawi warranty that your bike comes with new, just extended out an extra 4 years.

I've bought it twice, and it's paid for itself many times over, motor has been out of my present bike.

Extended Warranty, still deciding ?

If you are planning on keeping the bike long enough to put some miles on it... I am a proponent of extended warranties.

Dan's idea sounds like a great one from what I have seen. (But read the small print.)

Eventually you'll get your money back in my opinion if you plan on keeping the bike.

If the warranty you buy is transferable (as most of mine are); you will likely be able to sell or trade the bike for more money; or possibly quicker because of the warranty transferability.

Last but not least... With regard to reading the small-print. My son recently bought a "executive-driven" Chevy with the lifetime, bumper to bumper warranty. This wasn't cheap. His windshield started to leak so he went to the dealership only to find out that at some point... an after-market windshield was put in the car... and the warranty only covers "original factory installed" parts!!!

Needless to say... he and I went back to the dealership and went ballistic in the middle of the showroom floor for about 10 minutes... disrupting the entire place (and their prospective customers); all the while making sure everyone knew of the situation.

My point was that the dealership sold the warranty under the guise that this was a "Never-Worry" warranty that would cover EVERYTHING -- when in fact they knew that wasn't so.

They did replace the windshield, and we now have a letter from the manager stating they will cover all parts and service for anything with that car. Otherwise I would have made it a news-story; and would have sued them on the principle of deceit.

Just my two cents...

I too would get one if you plan on owning the bike for a long period of time.

Can you imagine what this would cost if you were the one footing the bill?

Will the warranty still cover the bike after modifications are made?

Ask Jeff / SWB if the warranty is worth it?
He just got a new transmission plus other misc. parts, with modifications installed.

Many of us have purchased a factory authorized four year extended warranty through Fremont Motorsports in Florence, Colorado, for $355. They primarily sell through eBay. You can see one of their current listings at:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Kawas...Q5fAccessories

If that link is expired, just do a eBay search for "Kawasaki 4-yr extended warranty".

They also sell policies for other Kawasaki products so be sure you are looking at a listing that includes the Nomad. If you have specific questions about coverage, I would call Fremont directly at:

I don't have it, but it is worth it.. A bad drive shaft alone costs all the price of the aftermarket INS.. A fuel pump is about twice that much....

I did have it with my stolen 01 and did use it for a drive shaft.

One of Dan's "cliff-side" photo-opts didn't work out too well I believe. ;)

It would likely depend on the modification, the extent of the modification, and what is wrong with the bike.

When I bought the extended warranty for my bike, I specifically asked the dealer about exhaust/intake modifications, etc., would it alter the warranty as it relates to the engine? He said, "Oh, no, we have guys modifying their bikes all the time."

Sounds good, but what else would you expect the salesman to say? I am guessing if you do something that leans your bike way out and you end up burning a hole in the piston, you don't have to worry about warranty paying for it, it'll be on your dime.

However, if you were to add a Tour-Pak to the back of your bike, and later the front wheel bearing goes out, it'd be very unlikely to contribute the addition of a trunk on the back of the bike to a front wheel-bearing failure.

I don't know if I'm making any sense here, but that's how I read it. :)

My bike had the extended warranty when I bought it. I didn't know this at the time, and only found out after running the vin on Kawasaki's sight and it came up. I called Kawasaki and the fella checked the file and told me that the bike had never required any warranty work. Is is a good piece of mind to have, as a few here have gotten there money's worth from it.

This got me off the fence. I generally don't buy these, but $355 for 4 years seems like cheap insurance.
