Karma

UPDATE: I closed the poll at 7:04pm CST on Sunday. The majority voted in favor of keeping karma on the KawaNOW forum...so Karma will stay.

Thanks to all who participated. - Trip

------------------------------------------------------------

One of the features of ProBoards is Karma. It's a feature that allows members to award points to fellow members or take away points.

This feature was enabled on the KawaNOW forum at its beginning two and a half years ago. It was originally meant to be a way of joking around and having fun. Karma has always been considered something non-serious that has nothing to do with your standing as a member of KawaNOW.

In the past, a few members have felt that maybe the karma feature should be disabled... that it does more harm than good.

So, I have decided to allow you, the KawaNOW member to vote as to whether you would like for the Karma feature to continue to be enabled or disabled on the KawaNOW forum.

Here are the rules:

- The poll opens Monday, 1/4/2010 at 10:30pm CST and will end Sunday, 1/10/2010 at 6:00pm CST.
- Majority vote will rule.
- You will be able to vote only one time and you will not be allowed to retract your vote.
- You can only select one option...Yes or No.
- Staff members as well as regular members are allowed to vote.
- Here is your chance to make your vote count concerning the existence of Karma on the KawaNOW forum.

The following is what is listed in the Forum FAQ about Karma:

What's up with the Karma?

After registering on KawaNOW and logging in as a member, you will notice at the bottom, left of each post below the location a Karma rating.

Karma is a rating system on the KawaNOW forum that gives each member a chance to rate other members. You can "Exalt" a member, which will add a "1" to their rating, or you can "Smite" a person, which will deduct a "1" from their Karma rating.

This rating is not a serious item and does not effect your member status as a KawaNOW member. Some members take pride in getting the highest negative number or smites in the system.

Again, this rating system is for fun only.

If you have any questions concerning karma, feel free to ask in this thread.

Thanks,
Trip

I'm offended by the whole Karma thing. This racist "yardstick" has been mis-used not to measure the contact of one's charature but to exclude the users who pride themselves in riding with a well ironed shirt.....

Is the "contact" of one's character anything like the "content"? Or is it some touchy feely Califorication thing? ::)

I have never really paid much attention to the Karma part, as I really didn't know what is was for or how it changed anything.

So on that note I say let it ride.

Cheers

I say keep it. It gives us something to talk about when nothing is happening in Washington DC. HA

I agree with Idaho. It is kind of like an oil thread. You need a discussion on this topic to come up once in a while just to bring us back to reality.

I never noticed anyone getting their feeling hurt by karma,so I say let it ride.
This forum has always been one (for the most part) that everyone is considerate and doesn't bash or say really hurtful things just to invoke a response.
Let it ride and don't take life so seriously.

I never took karma seriously and viewed it for what it is, something to joke around with, but this thread has forced me to choose sides. After all, I finally get a few (from where I have no idea) and now there is talk of disabling it. Is there no justice in this world?
