Seat Advise
I'm thinking about getting a new seat for my '03 Nomad and looking for advise. Any suggestions for which seat is the most comfortable for long rides? I have had my stock seat worked on, but the comfort level is still not there. I'm thinking about the mustang with driver's backrest, but not sure if comfort would improve enough to justify the investment. Thanks.

I have a Mustang with the back rest. They are nice seats and the backrest is great, but if I had to do it all over again I would go with the Corbin. The Mustang needs to curve up in the front more to keep you from sliding forward. I put in some long days on the Mustang with several 800 mile days and one day over 1000 miles. Have put over 35,000 miles on the bike with that seat on.

I've had two mustangs on two different bikes. In both cases, it was a big improvement. Shop around, prices will vary. I actually got both my seats from a local shop. They will order in anything you want, and discount about 15%. Turned out to be a better deal than internet. Go to gadgets, he's got a cheap sheepskin trick. These things can make a lot of difference. The Russell is probably a better seat, but many $$$$. Don't have any real time experience with that one, but others here can tell you about it.

I am a Mustang seat fan but that's all I have ever owned.I found they work for me so I keep buying them.I will never have another seat without a back rest but I'm an old fart and I need it.
All of the high quality seats are expensive but I have found good deals on used seats on Ebay and from forum members.Get the best seat that you can afford and your butt will thank you.

This is like asking "what kind of shoes fit me best?". Ask 10 guys and you're likely to get 10 different answers.
I have put 48,000 miles on my Mustang seat. I couldn't stand the stock seat for more than 50-60 miles. Even with the Mustang, I am starting to ache around 400 miles. If I had to do it again, I'd look at a Russell Day-Long seat. Big bucks, but probably worth every cent.

People talk about the cost of the Russell Day-long being so high, but at $595 it's only $70 more than the Ultimate and $76 more than a Mustang. I don't think that's all that much more to pay for a truly custom fit seat.

Russell Day Long, Corbin and Mustang are all top notch. It is what a person is comfortable with. That and dollars.

the ultimate seat rules :)bobzinger's prices are for the drivers seat only and they do not work with the stock pillion seat.
the three piece seat[driver, passenger, backrest]from russell will cost you over $1000. ,about$775.for the ultimate and in the kigh $600's for the mustang.

Seats......Had mustang seat, back rest adn pillion on formerly owned Nomad 1600....got new for $539 off ebay to door.....bargain....good seat..moved me forward too much but still better than stock.
bought three piece ultimate for an 800 cc cruiser for $800 and loved the backrest but the seat did not suit me and i returned it for refund...(they gave me two weeks to try) Have custom modified seat from Meancitycycles.com for still another cruiser and it is an improvement adn lessens the move forward....$100. Rider's seat mod only. worth the money. Best one so far: Diamond Seat custom mode including new pan and built in seat back for 650 CC cruiser....told builder to make it so I don't slide forward....he got there about 97% of the way....it is a great seat.......$475 shipped....Very firm..I use a 5/8" inch thick Blue Diamond (different company) gel pad and a sheepskin....superb comfort adn great back support...am sending the pillion ot him soon for matchiing recover and studding and making a notch to allow pillion to fit with his rider's seat backrest post for $75...I think it is at www.diamondseats.com but anyway whatever, it is Diamond and he does not work through any distributors..he does orders by phone only. can't email him.. Rode a corbin gunslinger type on a small cruiser and it felt great though very firm and ride was too short to know if a backrest would have been essential on longer rides..

The Russell seat for front & rear (aka Dual) is $595. If you want one, the backrest is an additional $240. Still less than $1000. Personally I think when you are in a proper seated position with Bars set at a comfortable position, you may not even need a backrest.

I have a Mustang seat with back rest. With that I also use a Air Hawk cushion. If I had it to do over again I would buy the Air Hawk and try it on the stock seat before I tried the Mustang.
I can do a 600 mile day and my butt is not hurting or numb. However, I do stop every 80-100 miles and take a butt break. If I can find a good used Russel Day Long with back rest I may give it a go.
