Clutch question

I have 14,500 miles on my 2008 and I noticed my clutch only disengages or engages right at the end of the release. It doesnt matter what setting the number is but it is at the end of lettig it out when she engages. Kind of reminds me of my old Honda Spirit. Is this normal or something that can be adjusted or the sign of something more. Thank you

That numbered setting is just for adjusting the distance between the lever and the grip, same as for the brake lever.

It is a hydraulic clutch and works the way you described. Ells is also correct about the number setting. It is to adjust the travel according the size of the riders hands.

As my clutch spring wore down, the engage/disengage position of the clutch lever moved further out. The clutch eventually started to slip and needed a spring replacement. There is no adjustment for this hydraulic clutch. Not saying yours is gonna need replacing anytime soon. I only got 14k miles from my first spring!

Changing the knob on the lever also provides a small amount of adjustment in the master cylinder travel. I found this out when I changed my clutch spring and had to set the knob on 1 or 2 to get enough travel to fully disengage the clutch.

Clutch question

CJ, Did you add "Judges Washers" with your Barnett Spring? Are they needed with the Barnett application?

No I didn't. I have a set of Judge's washers and a meanie spring on hand which I just might try if the Barnett spring ever fails. I only replaced the clutch spring and the cover gasket. Nothing else.

I added Judges washer with my meanie spring. Clutch hooks up real nice. The lever is also much closer to the grip than previous. I don't expect any clutch spring problems for a long while. :)

My 08 was the same way, I had to replace my clutch spring last week at 14,500 miles. The Barnett spring makes the lever harder to pull and it engages a lot sooner.

My '08 with 7,000 plus miles engages with the lever almost all the way back out. Guess that is pretty much normal.

Clutch question

My clutch engages at the end of travel too. I am currently waiting on a Barnett spring to arrive. I consider myself fortunate since I have 33K miles and just now I'm noticing a little slippage. Well actually quite a bit after installing a partial caddman mod to see if there was any improvement. The slipping is quite apparent now that the engine can breath and come alive. I'm also awaiting the arrival of a Barons big air kit. Santa is coming a little early this year!

Clutch question

I just replaced my spring with a Barnet MT-25. I noticed my clutch was slipping in 5th gear when I would jump on the throttle and it wasn't engaging until the lever was almost all the way out. I used gadget's step by step, and it when fine (except I had to rent a lager CFM compressor to break the 27mm nut with my impact gun). It now engages very quickly and I will have a very strong left hand. I also had to move the lever adjustment to 1, to get the clutch to fully disengage. Has anyone had both an MT-25 and meanie spring to know the difference in the how hard the lever pull is?

I've had my Barnett MT-25 for 5 or 6 months and several thousand miles now. Either the pull lightens up or I could crush walnuts with my left hand now.

I had to adjust my lever as well to increase the travel. That 27mm nut is a beeyotch, isn't it? I had a big enough enough compressor, but I had to dig out my 1/2" air hose to break it loose.

Jack, How many miles did you have on your spring when you went to the MT-25? My 02 has 41,000, but I bought it uses with 26,000, so I don't know if was changed before. You are right on the air hose, it is all about volume to break the nut loose.

I spent almost 5 hours getting that nut off and chasing air compressors.

Judge's washers and meanstreak spring make a big difference in the way the clutch feels. The washers protect the spring where it wears along the tabs and give the clutch a positive feel.
