Purchasing extended warranty

My son is buying a new o7 ZX14. I'm not real happy about it but what can I do he's 20 now and knows it all. I'd much prefer him to get a cruiser of some type but he says "noway I only want a sport bike." He really isn't all that experienced at bike riding. He has had a couple of small older bikes but nothing even close to this. But I have to admit if I was his age there is noway you could talk me out of it either. I wasn't fit to have that much power and I still am not. I know I will ride it some, just hope that I'm a little wiser now than I was when I was younger, but I still love speed and power. Thats one of the reasons I bought the Nomad, its not a rocket and I figured Less broken bones, speeding tickets, drag racing fines and chances are I wouldn't loose my license for doing what I figured I would do if I had all that power. He does plan on taking the basic motorcycle class to get his license. In a way this might sound sick but I hope he scares the Hel* out of himself. Maybe that is what he will need to ride sensible. It didn't work for me thats why I got rid of my bike when I was younger. I wanted to see my kids grow up. Well thats enough of me whining. Some were I remember reading that you can purchase an extended warranty from any Kawasaki dealer it didn't have to be were you purchased it from. The dealer wants $600+ for the warranty I'm sure it can be bought for almost half of that somewhere else.does anybody know of a good place to get one.

I bought one for my meanstreak in March of 03 and it was $400+, so I'm thinking $600 now is probably about right. At least if ya get it through the dealer you will probably have better luck when you need to use it.O,BTW, the one on my meanstreak was for 5 years.

Purchasing extended warranty

Try ebay, don't know if there is still a dealer selling warranties there or not, but a couple of years ago I bought one there for about $350.

When I bought my most current Nomad I got the dealer to sell the warranty matching that price. Some dealers will work with you on it, most won't.

They didn't just work the discount into the price of the bike either. I got the bike as a one year old, new, zero mile bike for $10,477.00. Got zero interest for 6 months loan, and the 4 year warranty for three hundred something.

It doesn't matter where you buy the warranty.

I got mine off of ebay. I was through the Kawasaki dealer in Colorado Springs. $355.00 and that included shipping and handling.

Bought mine off ebay too. I think it was 300 bucks for the four year warranty.

Purchasing extended warranty

Was it the Kawasaki Good Times protection plan or some other 3rd party carrier? I just got an offer from MaKaw for the above for 2 years for $545. Not sure if I wan't to insure against myself on this.

For me, just having the peace of mind that I'm coverd untill 2013 is worth more than the $350 price.

And if you read the "whats gone wrong with you bike" thread in BD Garage forum, then either the $350 is a steal, or a waste of money; depends on which post you read.

I know mine was with Kawasaki, and it was for 4 years, which took it to 2010 (bought it in 2006). I wouldn't trust a third party on this BD.....but I think you can get it better than 500.00.

I want to buy an extended warranty for the Lady in Red which is due at the end of this year, but after checking around here in Canada I'm at the mercy of the stealer.

Purchasing extended warranty

When I bought my Nomad, I bought the prepaid service plan my dealer offered me (it was a good deal), and covers all scheduled maintenance for the first 3 years and added an extra year to the factory 2-year warranty.

Purchasing extended warranty

In o5 when I bought my bike, I think I paid around $400.00 for my extended plan. It has been the best money spent as I have had my bike in a couple of times since the first 2 years ran out. I did buy an extended warranty for my car from a 3rd party. With that I do have to come up with the first $100.00. Something to think about if you find a non-Kawasaki extended warranty.

Purchasing extended warranty

Go into eBay and search for "Kawasaki 4-yr extended warranty". There is a Kawasaki dealer, Fremont Motorsport, in Florence, Colorado, that is offering these for $355 and it's out there now. I just checked. This is an official Kawasaki warranty, not a 3rd party. Within a few days I received a document from the dealer and about a week later I got a letter from Kawasaki with a wallet card showing the warranty info. To verify all this I also went into the Kawa web site and entered my VIN number and it showed my extended warranty. With labor rates as high as they are now, it's hard to imagine what they will be in a few years. So I figure $355 is good insurance. The dealer's number is listed on the bottom of the eBay listing. You may want to call them if you have questions.

Jim,

I bought the same valid kawasaki 4-year extended warranty from Fremont Motorsports @ $355.00 via Ebay.

I agree with you...good folks to do business with...fast and excellent service.

Purchasing extended warranty

I know we'll hear from people who made out, but in general, in the long-run, extended warranties have to be losers. The people who buy them will spend more money than the insurers will pay out, or, the insurers will go broke and will pay out nothing. Insurance makes financial sense when the risk is big, like liability or death when you have a family, but on consumer products as a whole you will be ahead of the game if you just self-insure, just set the money aside instead and expect to pay for a a repair or two once in a while. Has worked for me and many others and you get the same peace of mind after a while, unless your only luck is bad luck.
