rear wheel question
There is a spacer in the centre and another one on the RH side of the wheel that the axle passes through. Once the wheel is mounted on the splines and tightened, there should be no play.

rear wheel question
I hope this isn't going to be a habit... Ask a question, get a answer and delete the question..
This looks stupid...

rear wheel question
What year bike are we talking about, or is it a 1500, 0r 1600?
And probably not, but I am not sure I understand. Are you saying there is slop fore and aft in the damper, Or the plate that retains it is loose and the circlip is not holding it well? 01 1500's and I don't know what other years were recalled for this situation, and a new rubber damper was installed with related hardware.

rear wheel question
its a 01 vn1500n, rebuilt with nomad parts. the rear wheel has disk brakes. you can put your fingers in the hub holes and lift (the plate) up and down on the hub about 1/16". the rubber damper has some wear marks on it. you talk about a recall? I will check with the dealer.

The damper is shot, and this wheel isn't safe with out it working, worse you would risk the drive line creating shock. This would be something like very bad ring and pinion gears in a pick truck, where the drive shaft really turns to far before the shaft goes clunk!!!

rear wheel question
I don't think you would really hear a noise, but rather would feel a semi neutral like condition between power on and power off, where slack must be taken.
I am not very computer literate. So I use photobucket to post pics here. In order to do so I must use the long form over quick reply, and copy and past from the bottom selection of the thumnail picture i select. If you don't have that type of account follow my link and play with any picture you wish. http://s290.photobucket.com/albums/ll275/Mac_Muz/ For example to post the pic below I go to it and hoover the mouse, and a display pops up. The bottom menu shows as IMG, and I left click that selection. A message pops up saying the address is copied to notepad. Then I just click on the post here. I broke this so you can see what it appears to me as. ![]() If i don't this picture is what I will see after submit the post. [IM G]http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll275/Mac_Muz/Liberty/d8f4.jpg[/IM G] Took some breaking but I finally broke it... here is that pic.. ![]()
