AAA vs AMA vs ROK

Just wondering if any of you have used motorcycle 'towing' services from any of these orginizations, or which ones you belong to, why, etc.

I've got the basic Triple A coverage on our cars- never had to use it. They brag about all these wonderful discounts you get on insurance and about a hundred other things- the quote I got on car insurance was so stupid it was offensive. So much for 'savings'. I suppose if I ever lock myself out of the car, etc., Triple A will be nice to have.

A guy can get a lot of money tied up in annual donations to these various 'clubs'......

I have AMA, it was free for a year when I renewed my membership for the 23rd year. My reason is they protect our right to ride. I also have towing with my insurance carrier, Markel Insurance Group.

I have used the AMA roadside assistance, not to tow my bike though. I had to have my car towed when the fuel pump croaked in it. I joined the AMA primarily because of their roadside assistance, which covers any vehicle I am in, not just the bike. Also because they defend riders rights.

I don't have any roadside protection coverage and never have, In over 35 years of driving Ive only needed three tows, and thats worked out a lot cheaper than annual coverage.

I have towing on my Progressive plan, but never used it at the scene. It was used once for a dealer to come pick up my wreck, but not before 10 days passed, and I had ridden the wreck from the scene to a place we could stay a while, like 30 days to heal up some.

The dealer charged twice, since the first time he was already overloaded, and while he was a Kawi dealer he said he thought the Nomad was a small dirt bike!

I was billed, or is it bilked for that service as well as the next trip out to pick up the bike.

I told progressive what happened and they didn't care! That same dealer did a re-call on the gwebbo ( the rubber baby bumpers inside the rear wheel) There was nothing wrong with that what so ever! And then the dealer charged Progressive AND ma kawwi for the service, getting paid twice for the same thing, which had nothing to do with the crash, and or even a bad gwebbo.

Now the book probably doesn't call that series of parts what i do, but all it is, is a damper to absorb shock inside the wheel unit.

At this point providing I can still work after a scene, or break down, I have my own trailer to go back and pick up my bike with.

I have AAA "Plus" with coverage for my cars as well as the MC. It costs a little more with the "Plus" feature but it allows towing to any place of my choice up to 100 miles at no additional cost. Some plans only offer towing to the nearest repair facility and you pay extra for mileage if you want to go somewhere else beyond that. Then, if your bike is laid up at that nearest repair facility waiting for parts/tires, etc., you have to figure out how to get yourself home. Since most of my riding is done within a 100 mile radius, I could have both my bike and myself transported back home and deal with the repair at my leisure. Same with my cars. A while back an item in the road knocked a hole in my transmission pan about 20 miles from where I live. There was a nearby Buick dealer where the car broke down but I chose to have it towed to my local dealer which made it easier for me to get home and then pick the car up when it was fixed.

I have AAA Plus RV. Have not needed it for the bike (hey its a Nomad, not a HD) but used their towing service multiple times when I owned a GM diesel...

I have roadside assistance with my Geico insurance plan or I can use the AMA plan if needed. I used to have ROK but they were flaky with renewal timelines, I gave them up. I did use the ROK benefit once when I blew a tire heading to the Keys. It was flawless although I did have to wait about 1 1/2 hours for the tow truck and ROK seemed to need a cross road reference. They could not grasp we were on US1 with water on both sides of the road, Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico. Well, the operator was in Minnesota......It was a pleasant day so no biggie. Luckily the cycle shop in Key Largo had a tire.......whew!

I have roadside with Progressive and ROK and AMA. I had an ECU problem at the top of Trail Ridge road a few weeks ago, and had to have the bike towed to Estes Park then to a dealer in Longmont. Total bill $275.00 used Progresssive and they sent me a check for the total amount in 2 weeks no Questions just an explanation along with the receipt. Great Service.

I am an AMA member and have used their road service for when my mother locked us out of the truck. In the middle of nowhere on a Sunday evening they found a driver to come within 45 minutes from the call.

Would be a member regardless of the road service, so the road service is free in my mind!

AMA member. Never used the road side assistance for bike but had car towed and they paid everything.
Like Jack C, I would be a member even if they didn't have road side assistance.
I used to pay for MoTow before it was given free if you allow them to take membership from your credit card each year. That's one hell of a deal. The fight for my rights as a motorcycle rider also.
Just my opinion but if you ride a bike;
You should be n AMA member.
