Indian Motorcycle is Back

Read in Motorcycle Cruiser that Indian is back. It was an enjoyable story. The cost of these bikes is in the $30,000 range. Too rich for my meager income.

They are already discounting them a little.

They started production in a brand new plant in North Carolina back in the fall, They are expensive but I love the look of the Vintage Chief.

Great looking bike, but hardly sustainable at that price point.

I'll bet they didn't plan on entering the marketplace during a recession. But once they were committed to building the plant, hiring the people, setting up the dealerships, they where probably to far in to back out.

I hope they make it this time, but I won't hold my breath. Maybe this time they stand a chance. The days of S&S engines was a poor choice.

I won't have that sort of dough either, so I won't have one, unless steal it!

Are S&S engines just crap? I hear many good things, but always this undertone of crap.

Nothing is wrong with S&S engines, which are clones but better than HD engines. The problem with Indian is they wanted their old looking bottle cap heads back and didn't do it the first time, which made the bike a quassi harley.

If you want a custom bike that looks like a harley custom, go right ahead and use a S&S engine!

If you want a Indian that looks like a harley use that engine too, but why?

IMO Indian did a bad thing to themselves jumping the gun and not getting their bottle cap engine into production when they came back last time.

At the end of there production before they took a bath they did have that engine with the bottle cap heads, but it was too late. The market dumped on them, and their backers backed out with nothing to show for the effort.

This is like putting a Honda Shadow engine in a Harley! No one in their right mind including me would ever do that.

Indian has this fixed, and has a Bottle cap engine now, and God help em if they don't. If they don't and I believe they do, they might make it back maybe.... If i am wrong and they are going to use S&S good engines again, they are Doomed before the 1st one goes out the door.

Might as well bring back a VW 4 Boxer and stuff it in a frame for Indian, and call it BWM..

S&S engine have milled heads from blocks of alloy and are not castings... Good stuff, and I never heard a bad word about S&S.

The hardest part is that anyone old enough to recall what a Indian was is getting up there in years, and the younger crowd don't care much about nostalgia.. Indian's market is a select few men with money, and lots of it.

Yeah, but what you hear about custom choppers is that they lack in reliability and i was wondering if that was due to the S&S engine. Sounds like it is something else that causes the lack of reliability in choppers.

The new Indian company has hired a lot of top engineers, from Bombardier, Polaris, Harley and ChrisCraft. They say that they have done a lot of R&D on there motors and are confident that they will stand up. Hoprfully all these guys have a lot of knowledge and experience and have succeeded in building a solid bike.
