clicking noise

Went for a long ride in the Georgia mountains on Saturday. We started up the bike this morning and headed for home. We both noticed a clicking noise for about the first mile. (from the front of the motor I think) It sounded like it was following rpm not the tire. It went away and did not return on the 100 mile trip home.
I have a 2007 1600 with 5800 miles. Thanks in advance.

P.S. As you can tell I'm not much of a mechanic.

It was probably the two solenoids behind your right side dog dish. (air breather cover). They clack until the engine warms up. That's my guess.

May be the reed valves also. I have removed the left side air cleaner, the reed valves, and the solenoids and my engine is so much quieter than it was before. I love it.

Wouldn't hurt to check your oil level? And oil degrades with age and use. Pretty low mileage for an 07. If the oils been in bike for a year it can be shot with a lot less than the 3-4K most of us run between changes, especially if it's organic vs synthetic. One of the first warnings that you get that the viscosity is going away in your oil is lifter "tic" which follows engine rpm not speed. Shows up at the two engine extremes; dead cold start up and full on roasting hot with it being most noticeable at lower rpm ranges.

They all, at least the 1600s, click. Some of it goes away after warm up. Solenoids are often blamed and can be disconnected but there still tends to something making a little more noise than you might expect, but most of us get used to it.

Or be like some of us and are half deaf and can't hear it anyway.
