todays Ride

Dave, of former Nomad owner now a full dress 09 Harley owner, and I took off on a 270 mile ride today. A full test of my car tire on multi type of roads! We started at 8am.

first stop, Beaumont for breakfast.

Then we rode up the San Jacinto mountains. These are just west of Palm Springs. I had never ridden up these mountains (don't ask why?) We pulled over several times and just couldn't believe neither of us had ridden up them before and how amazing this place was. Our local mountains have always assumed to be Big Bear.

Here's Dave checking out the scenery!!

We had a ball. rode over these mountains then over Ortega Highway (another mountain range) and then Santiago Canyon on the way home! I should have taken more pics but you know how it is when your riding on tree covered roads and just get "stoked" and keep riding!?? Thats how today was!!!

Dave and I switched rides and he really is a believer in the car tire after riding my Nomad for 35miles. I got to ride his Harley as well! Funny how two similar types of bikes can feel so different!

Harley has really improved their quality over the years. Sixth gear is nice. It's about even with my 5th now with the larger car tire. Has about equal power and lots of gadgets! Shakes like an earthquake at idle!!! Then its glass smooth down the mountain road or super slab!! This bike handles the curves unlike any Harley I've ridden in the past. Also you sit bolt upright more like your on a Honda ST 1300 than a Nomad.

It felt quite a bit smaller than my Nomad. Overall a quality piece of machinery. But........... If my nomad had all the bells and whistles as his fully loaded Harley does I'd still prefer the "larger" feel of the Nomad.

THANKS DAVE!!!!

Nice report man. Thanks for the write up!
And I agree about the Harley. I am not anti-Harley, just pro-Nomad! :)

Glad you got to put some miles on your ride BD. What's your odometer up to now? ;)

off topic, what brand of jacket is that that Dave has on? I still need a textile jacket, and the hi-vis would be a welcome addition.

It's a TourMaster Transition 2. Since I ride to work in the mornings a lot when it's still dark out, I choice the high visibility so people will see me.

I was impressed with Brad's car tire. I do believe when the time comes, I will consider having one installed, also.

Sounds like a great ride!

I quite enjoy the newer HD product and would not hesitate on one if the price was right. That being said, I do agree with BD and that I still prefer the larger Nomad as well.

After yesterdays ride, about 300!!

Fish:

After yesterdays ride the car tire has passed the test! Even Dave who I don't think has ridden a big bike with a car tire was pleased. He noticed that it takes a little more effort to initiate a turn but the Nomad handled the twisties just fine to him. The ride was more compliant (softer) than his Harley. Commented several times that when he would hit bumps all he felt as a soft gentle squish instead of more of a jolt from a regular bike tire. He appears to be sold on it. I know I am.

Nice report. Aint it great to get out? Funny how we tend to take our own local for granted. Always want to go somewhere else and get away.
