Heel shifter
If you are looking to replace the stock heel shifter, you might consider 8029 Kuryakyn brake pad.
Radco posted a picture on another thread and I thought it looked better than Kury's 4029 heel shifter cover......and about 10 bucks cheaper. You do have to drill a hole in stock heel shifter plate. In fact, I modified mine a little by adding 3/16" thick by about 2" long spacer on the rear of pad secured by 3M double sided tape on both sides of pad which angles the heel shifter down toward the floorboard. Don't have to raise your heel as much to shift. ![]()

Heel shifter
Yeap they do look better than the covers, I did mine too
![]() You can also dress up the brake pedal too. Kury makes a cover for the brake pedal for the Nomad, but I wanted the pedal to be a little smaller. So I picked up a Kury brake pedal for a HD which is about the same as the one used for the heal shifter but it is just a little wider by one additional rubber insert. You have to remove the rubber pad for the Nomad brake pedal and also have to remove the metal base of the pedal from the brake arm. Next step involved lots of grinding, cutting, and beating so the metal base would fit inside the bottom of the new brake pedal. Of course drilling the new mounting hole was the easy part. ![]() ![]() |

Heel shifter
I would think that if the heel shifter is too high, you could change the position by reindexing it on the splined shaft.

It will just change the position of the shift lever, not any characteristic of the transmission. It's still the same pattern.

Heel shifter
If I remember right when you lower the heel shifter to the next spline it hits something that stops its downward movement before it actually shifts.

I don't know. I never adjusted mine, but I have seen others with heel shifters that were at a different position than mine.

Heel shifter
Looks really good DK.
![]() Ponch, When you lower the shifter 1 spline from where DK's was, you couldn't press it down far enough to make it shift 'cause the floorboard wouldn't let you press it down enough. Now if you were to use your toe on the heel shifter, you might get it to work, but kinda makes it not a "heel shifter" any more. ![]()

Hey SKIMO: How did you change out that front toe shifter on your NAD. Really looks nice. I like the looks of dkdixie's as well but yours looks a little different. I am going to change out both the heel and toe next week, then work on the brake pedal.

Heel shifter
When I took delivery of my 08 Nomad two weeks ago I almost had the dealer saw off the heel shifter. But he was just so frazzled over business being slow that I had mercy on him and didn't ask. I figured you don't teach an old dog like me new tricks. Was I ever wrong. After a couple of days riding around town with my water wings on getting used to riding again I just fell in love with the thing. I would like to push it back about two inches though. Any of you guys ever do something like that??
Thanks!! Tom |

I suppose if you wore boots with heels, it would work. :)

Heel shifter
Thanks SKIMO. Ordering it tomorrow. Hopefully can get it in the J&P catalog. Any advise on that brake pedal. I have read a lot opinions but it seems that most have gone to a Drifter type. I am cursed with no mechanical ability but willing to try anything once and then usually have to pay someone to fix it for me.

Removed my heel shifter yesterday, just gets in the way as far as I'm concerned. Although the Kuryakyn set does look nice
