Mutuza Trunks and Vanilla-Zilla Fairing?

Been looking to add a tour pack/trunk to the Nomad for awhile. The biggest reason I didn't add one to my 99 was the painting issue. Now that I've got the black 06 my hunt has resumed. I been haunting ebay for years for a HD/Venture/Concours/Voyageur/OEM, but if the trunk is in good shape, it goes for $500-$600+ shipping and still needs to be painted. The cheap ones still have the shipping issue, and were always cracked, scuffed up, or missing backrest, lights, hinges, locks, etc... The next issue is mounting. I know Wompus makes a very nice unit, but $220 for a black bracket doesn't excite me. It seemed that this was going to be a $1000 project.

Lately I've been considering the cheap ones on ebay. Mutuza has the standard one with a wraparound backrest and chrome top rack for $229 including shipping. I've even read that many have mounted this onto their existing aftermarket luggage rack. I think this would meet my needs, but wanted others opinions and feedback.

Bottom line is that it is primarily an appearance piece as we rarely do more than overnights two up. I might go for an extended 4-5 day trip this summer, but that will be solo. Other consideration is that if I can do this inexpensively, I've got more to spend on a Hoppe Vanilla-Zilla Fairing!

Speaking of, any thoughts on the Vanilla-Zilla?

That's what I have and I've not had any problems with it in the
little over a year it's been on my bike. I have an Ultra Classic
also and the Mutuza isn't the quality of the HD, but it don't cost
$800 buck or more either. When the wife and it ride with the
dog, we pack it full, food, rain gear, water, etc and have never
experienced any malfunctions or problems.

Yup, I've had the Mutazu DMY trunk mounted on a Wompus rack for over a year now. Like you, I didn't want to spend a grand to have a trunk. I figure if the trunk lasts a couple of years, then I'll buy a better one, but I haven't had any issues with mine. I did not buy the wrap-around backrest because I seldom have a passenger and I did buy the rack, but have not yet mounted it. Also, I removed the "VIP" badge and added a couple of LED running lights to mine since this picture was taken.

I was in the same boat as you.. Looking at craigslist and ebay daily for a decent trunk. I actually just missed a venture trunk even before I had my nomad. I went to bid and it said I wasn't logged in. anyways, it was in fantastic shape, pads, not cracked, had keys and it went for 150. still needed paint though but that was the best deal I have seen. I ended up getting a tour pak off ebay, painted to match and came with a rack. I'm in the process of making my own rack to keep my chrome grab rails but that set up went 900. Yea, it hurt a bit, but it's done and I dont worry about it anymore. I thought I heard from someone here that they have had a little leakin problem with that trunk..

Where can I find a Mutuza Trunk ? Im new to my Nomad and would like a trunk with a seat. I Googled the name and searched ebay and cant find the Mutuza Trunks??

revolver....just Google "motorcycle trunk" and Mutazu will be on the first page, or just go to mutazu.com. I have one and will recommend it as a low cost or "serviceable" alternative to an expensive tour-pac.

Question? How does the Matazu trunk ride with the passenger? Good and soild ride or does it bounce around alot. I had a plastic trunk on my Honda and my wife would complain about it bouncing and hitting her back. thanks

I have the matazu trunk on my 03 and my wife loves the added support it gives to her.

Maybe I'm ignorant, but wouldn't she be leaning against it? I think the "bouncing" is more of a problem with the rack it's mounted on than the trunk itself. The Mutazu trunks are made out of ABS, just like the Voyager trunk and the newer Harley trunks.
