Me thinks you either have a loose battery connection or a battery getting ready to go in the crapper.

Yessir. That's what happens when you disconnect the battery. Check those battery connections. I'm surprised that you are able to start it, if it's losing voltage to the instrument panel because the battery is weak, I wouldn't think it would have enough juice to crank. If it's because a cable is loose, I wouldn't think it would start.
When I installed my cruise control, I was busy putting things back together and I tried to start it, I heard a "pop" and the bike went dead. I spent the next 20 minutes looking at fuses, the problem was my + battery cable was loose.

Hi;
I'll have to look in the Service Manual, but does the clock have a small watch type battery that holds the correct time as the cmos battery in a PC ? |

My 04 Nomad has done that a couple times over the last two year. The clock did not loose time but the trip meter would be reset to zero. The Nomad has never failed to start.

I just kept pluggin away. The first time it did it, I thought I must have accidentaly reset it (that was somewhere around 2 year ago give or take 6 month). The second time (it was reset to 0) it had 24 mile on the trip meter when I parked it. Then 6 days later I was going for a ride and got on the Nomad turned the key on and it was on zero (this was some time last summer). Both times it started without a problem. No I never did check the battery connections. It is the original battery and has never failed to start the Nomad.

Ironic that this post appeared. I lost 2 hours on my clock (2003) just yesterday...where did the day go?
![]() I was wondering if it might be caused by my battery tender? Starts fine so far (knock on wood).
