Good News To Me

I have known this for some time now. Even my own doctor that I have used for years will prescribe something for me when he knows good and well that something would work better. The drug reps and drug companies determine what doctors prescribe.

Good News To Me

I always ask for generics and NEVER accept new drugs. Besides being too tight to pay for the new pills I'm not conviced that a new pill with a carefully chosen name based on marketing research will be my magic cure.

Luckilly, I rarely need meds.

Generics work just as well and do save you money.

Good News To Me

I like the brand name drugs if I have a choice, they usually taste better.

Fred Flintstone vitamins don't count.

I'm sure you've seen the commercials on TV for law firms where they scroll a list of drugs and say "if you have been prescribed and taken these medications, you may be entitled to a cash settlement..." Many of the drugs listed were those that were heavily marketed to the public in the recent past. I don't want to get into the "tort reform" or class-action lawsuit discussion, but I don't think a lot of these drugs are fully tested before they hit the market.

There's one they advertise heavily now for relief of fibromyalgia (I forget the drug name). They state fibromyalgia IS THOUGHT to be caused by <yada yada>, <drug name> IS THOUGHT to block the nerve receptors <yada yada>. They don't know what causes the condition or how the drug affects it?

Many of these drugs are a huge cash generation machine for the drug companies. That's enough reason to avoid them, in my book.
