missing parts

hello all.looking for any info on tensioner body esn cap.
i took the cap off to see if plunger was out of travel and all that came out with the cap was 1 spring(tighter wound one) and an end cap type thing that the spring sat in.
in gadgets instructions, his picture of the cap taken off shows an outer spring also and looks like other stuff inside cap....
he also said to take cap off easy because of spring loaded parts could fly out. the only spring loaded stuff in my cap was a spring
am i missing some parts or what.........
any insight would be greatly appreciated

Does what you have look like gadjets pics? Is the plunger rod down so far as he says it can be when the time for extenders comes?

His warning is likey a bit over the top for peoples safety, since he has no controll, doesn't need a law suit and etc etc.

Pull the other cap off and see if these have the very same parts. I haven't been there but will be on another guys bike sometime pretty soon.

Haul the rest of the tensioner off the 2 bolts, and have a good hard look. Be sure to figure out how to lock it bak IN all the way, and then still in yer grubby mits unlock it and let it skip forward as if it were installed BUT IS NOT INSTALLED.

Then after you 'get it' install it retracted all the way back so the rid is extending back towards the cap. Once the device in bolted up, cap still off release it, install the smaller spring and cap then.

I think you can install the smaller spring and cap after the body is bolted up.

This will set the chain right. Do NOT even think to have the KEYS in the igntion!

DO not turn or allow the engine to be turned 1 mm in any direction, block the wheels and be in neutral this whole time!

When the cap comes off you should have a retainer, a bearing, a large Ø spring and small Ø spring. The springs should push off everything very quickly. Do not move the engine in anyway at this point as Mac has pointed out!

The large spring keeps the bearing in the retainer, while the retainer/bearing assembly is contained in the cap. These help to support the rod that the sear is on as the tensioner extends. The small diameter spring applies the force to extend the tensioner. Kawasaki has the cam chain tensioner on its own schematic for your review. The 1600 schematic is correct; the 1500 schematic does not show the large spring, but both should be there. You can follow Gadget's instructions to reset and replace the tensioner should you be out of travel. I was out of travel by 28,000 miles, however your mileage may vary.
