Wide Open Customs Fairing

Got my fairing from Wide Open Customs installed late yesterday. Just getting out to get some pictures before dark tonight. Hope the link below works. I tried to get all angles.

http://gallery.me.com/john.moore3#10...or=black&sel=2

I think the color match is pretty good, but I could always nit-pick here and there about it. The painter had me take a bag to a local O'Reillys Auto Parts and they read the color there with a camera, and it turned out pretty good. A lot cheaper than Colorrite paint anyway.

Got the wiring 99% complete, just waiting on some Posi-Taps to arrive by UPS to tap into a wire at the junction box to power the relay. Still on the fence about choosing the headlight wire or taillight wire for this though. Usually don't mind doing wiring, but this job really stressed me out. Had two tables full of parts that I took off the bike over the weekend to get to everything I needed to run the wires/

The pics only show the clear 10" shield, but I got a smoked 5" shield as well. Got both with a formed recurve on the edge and I think it makes a big difference over the standard edge. I had to put the factory lowers back on as the larger ones I made to fit with the windshield hit the bottom of the fairing. Going to make another set net week to fit the curve of the fairing.

Mrs. SuperDuty and I and another couple are heading down to Eureka Springs this Friday - Monday, so I was really anxious to get it installed for that trip.

I picked it up from the company direct, so that saved shipping time and costs. Got the standard stereo, and two windshields, it was $879, plus another $295 to paint it.

So far - so good, but then you'd have to add in the $112 speeding ticket I got on the way home from the company, to get the total cost. 67 mph in a 55 zone, and KS highway patrol shows no mercy. :(" title="" border="0"/>

Company website is below.

Not really, it's pretty crowded with the 4 speakers. The install instructions on the website show a good picture of it without the speakers and stereo installed.

Nice looking setup;
It looks like the paint matches pretty well.

Looks great!

Did you tell the officer that the new fairing must have corrected your speedo error and that is why you didn't realize you were speeding?

John?? I think the fairing looks great! You've re-sparked my interest in putting a fairing on my '06. Nice job.

I think I am heading down this road as well, though I think I will go with the Tsukayu. Nice look on your bike though.

Actually not on the bike, but in the car. Traded off my beloved SuperDuty about a month ago for a Flex. Wow, I love this car. So cushy and all the tech gadgets have me hypnotized. Not changing my name though. :)

I am hoping to get a tankful of gas through before the weekend trip to see if mileage is affected by the fairing, and by how much.

Wiring was probably easier that I made it. For some reason, I don't like taking off the tank, but I am much more comfortable with it now.

I essentially built the wiring harness that goes with the PC8 fuse box from Eastern Beaver, and hooked the stereo to that. That way if I decide I need/want the fuse box later I can buy just that piece and hook to the existing wiring. Don't know how it'll fit in the left side compartment though, as there's not enough room left with the TFI and the relay in there now. Maybe the relay can go in the battery compartment, but there are so many dang wires in and around there already and my fat fingers don't help.

The wiring for the stereo itself was straightforward. I wondering later if I did want something else mounted in the fairing (not planning on it now though) if I could have done away with the two innner speakers and maybe mounted a painted abs/lexan/acrylic disc in those spots as a place to put gauges. Still an option though. Maybe cut a disc to fit inside a trimmed out speaker grill and do that way. A 12v outlet in there would be nice too.

Really looks good. I put one of these fairings on my 08 about 2 months ago, did'nt notice any difference in the gas mileage.
