Ok. Summer is coming and the Regionals awaits! I'm still looking for a very reflective jacket that is made for extreme warm climates. Like going across the desert when it's over 100.

For those that have them, what are you wearing and how is it working out? I've heard us talk about jackets that construction workers wear that hold water as well.

Just trying to make sure I'm prepared for Mesquite!

thanks,

Hey BD, I don't ride in the desert but it gets hot here in the summer. Humid as hell also.
I bought a TourMaster Intake jacket last year. It has a mesh outer shell with removable armor in the elbows, shoulders and back. It has a zip in liner for wet weather and a zip in liner for cold weather. You can wear then all at the same time or each seperatly. I like it a lot. It flows a lot of air in hot weather while wearing just the mesh outershell.
That being said, if I was going to buy one this year I would go for the new TourMaster Flex 2 jacket. It is baisicly the same thing I have except the wet weather part is not a liner. It goes on OVER the rest of the jacket. Much more convienet in my opinion.

I wear the $89.00 Field Sheer mesh jacket here in Sacramento. What ever you decide, check out The Helmet Source for pricing. At the bottom of their page there is a coupon code for $10.00 off the price & FREE shipping. -Rich

TC i think Tourmaster is discontinuing the one you bought so hence the new name. Looked like a quality jacket but I hear still hot over 90 degrees.

That could be doc, I can't see anyone buying the one I got when the new version is more convinient to use.
I'm not sure anything with any kind of protection is going to keep you cool in real hot weather.

I have a Hein Gerike mesh and a Joe Rocket Phoenix. I like them both OK. My favorite is the First Gear Mesh-Tex which is what my wife wears.

The Joe Rocket is on sale...

I like my Brosh Ultra K jacket from Tel Aviv. The material breathes well and holds the armor in place. (haven't crash tested it, hope not to!) ;-)

05-21-2008, 04:11 PM
I wear the Joe Rocket SantaFe & It's held up very well. It's basically black though. Still I like the perforated leather arms with mesh body for a good balance of venting and protection.

The armor is pretty good quality too.

BD - Ever cook a pot roast or turkey in one of those plastic oven bags? ...you get the idea.

It was 109 when I was riding home from work yesterday. Wearing a jacket of any kind would just make it even more unbearable.

Nice jacket at newenough, no grey in my size. That's the story of my life. I can find everything in my size in black.

Mesh jacket? Don't get me started. I have been waiting for over 7 weeks for my leather jacket from Jammin Leather in SC. Their first excuse was it was back ordered, then it was the myrtle beach bike rally. Be glad if you can buy off the rack. Generally, I can't. Too big, too long of arms and torso. If anyone knows where you can buy leather for tall AND big, let me know. I take a 60L in blazer. My shirts are 21-39/40 tall. You get the idea. http://s2.images.proboards.com/angry.gif:(" title=">:(" border="0"/>

I don't understand the reasoning for buying a jacket for the rally. The open road seems the safest place to ride whereas normal city driving seems like the most hazardous. If you don't own/wear a jacket then why buy/wear one for the rally? Save the money for beer and gas.

I wonder if the back protector is removable on the Joe Rocket. I saw where people remove then since they're not comfortable when you have a backrest on your bike.
Also, the Rocket has a rainliner where it appears with the Fieldsheer it's optional.

This was my short list before buying, BEEZ. I ended up buying the Field Sheer in the same color you posted. The main reason I picked it, is The Helmet Source did not have the Joe Rocket in stock in my size. This is a soft, loose fitting jacket with max air flow. I wore it last weekend with 100+* temp on our Feather River Canyon ride. I rode some distance w/o the jacket to test the comfort level by riding in shirt sleeves only. The jacket does not add any discomfort & adds some safety for the rider. The jacket came with the rain liner installed at the $79.00 price. My friend has the Joe Rocket Phoenix & IMHO is is a better looking jacket. He seems to like it. -Rich

I ended up ordering a Power Trip Mojave jacket from Newenough in grey/black. It seemed like the best combination of style and the proper size. Even though it's extremely hot here, I feel I *should be wearing something* when I ride. Hmm...we'll see.

I had a Fieldsheer a few years back and sold it but kept the liner as rain gear and a windblock. It was a nice jacket but I never wore it..
I noticed the Rocket has a stronger replacement back protector available so that answers the question about it being removable.

Thanks. I just hope it fits.

I'd need a jacket today. It's raining and is about 45 degrees cooler than it was on Tuesday. Strange for this time of the year. Check that, it's 50 degrees cooler. This time Tuesday, it was 109, right now it's 59.

Some people don't realize the fact that there's a 8" zipper in the back of most all of these jackets. It's there for a very good reason. Pants with armor as well. While these pants protect hips, knees, and butts they also keep the jacket from sliding up in the event of a slide and getting road rash on the stomach and back.
There is also a reason why the jacket is supposed to fit tight. It's not only because you feel like a big parachute but it keeps the armor against your body protecting the area it's intended to protect instead of in the event of a slide for example the shoulder pad isn't protecting the middle of a bicep instead of the intended shoulder.
Another observation is the fact that if you buy a black jacket more Harley guys will wave http://s2.images.proboards.com/cool.gif http://s2.images.proboards.com/cheesy.gif

The Powertrip Mojave jacket I ordered from Newenough.com just arrived. Wow! I was worried it would be too tight on me, but it's a tad large, which means I'll be able to breathe in it. It does fit pretty well and it looks nice. It's styled more like a cruiser jacket than a sportsbike jacket, which is one of the reasons I went with it. I wasn't planning on riding to work tomorrow, because I have to attend a lunch meeting across town and the boots would look tacky. So I probably won't really try it out until Friday, when it's supposed to be 100.

Here's an unintended benefit - the jacket matches my HJC Vulcan 2 helmet perfectly. It also looks good with my other helmets. I'd better stop now, or I'll be getting a visit from the guys from "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy". Normally I couldn't care less if anything I wear matches.

I have the Joe Rocket Phoenix 5.0 Mesh Jacket and I like it a lot.

They come in a variety of Colors (http://store.dsrpowersports.com/20joeroph50m.html) The nice thing about the Joe Rocket Jacket is it comes with an inside (removeable rain coat) which is nice to have.

Happy Shopping,

Even though I am still sick, I went on a ride today with the Phoenix Motorcycle Riders Group. I figured I could be sick at home or sick on the ride, either way I'm still sick. I decided to try out my new Powertrip Mojave mesh jacket I received the other day. Temps were in the high 70's (when I left home at 06:45) to around 105 (the ride back home). It seems to vent really well, and the only place that became excessively hot was under the spine pad. Even during the hottest parts of the ride, I can't say I was uncomfortably hot wearing the jacket. I'm happy with it.

Hi
I've been keeping an eye on this posting and thought that when the day came that I bought a "warm weather jacket" I'd drop a link to what I found. Well that day is here.
I just purchased the "B100 Bohn SuperMoto Air Armored Shirt" from

http://www.actionstation.com/catalog/products.php?cat=18

I can just throw a shirt or light jacket over it IF I WANT. OR ride with just the armored shirt. {not likely though} It can also go under my leather jacket or rain jacket of course. Check out the site and have a look. The company, Bohn , suggested either the "crusader" or "SuperMoto Air" armored shirt. and at $185.00 all in with expedited shipping, I thought it was a reasonable price. On-line orders also offered knee guards free and incl. if the buyer wants them. Looking fwd. to hearing what others have to say about these products. I'm also thinking about the Kevlar jeans from another site.
I've had the misfortune of being hit and knocked down by a deer a few yrs. ago and thought I owed it to myself to try and protect myself without sweating to death. I should get it in a few days and will let everyone know how it is.
