Hey guys, just joined the ranks yesterday, got my 2000 1500FI titled and registered today and took it for a little ride. I bought it with a Hypercharger Pro already installed, but I plan to take serious rides on this bike and the Hypercharger just isn't comfortable for longer rides.

I would like to take off the Hypercharger and install a modified Caddman intake on the right side. When the Hypercharger was installed they removed the left side airbox and left it empty over there. I would like to simply add an open element and a chrome cover.

The problem is that I have no idea what was modified/removed from the bike to install the Hypercharger or where to start "adding on" from the Caddman mod. Has anyone made the lateral move from Hypercharger to Caddman that can help walk me through the process? I haven't had time to sit down today and even look at the Hypercharger to figure out disassembly even!

Thanks for any and all help! Looking forward to putting some miles on this bike, I have a juvenile diabetes ride on October 20th to break her in!

Putting the left side back on is next to impossible. The crossover tube from Right to Left had to be cut out to remove. I've never looked, but I very much doubt a used one can be found ???

Here's the Hypercharger installation instructions, just read them backwards :D http://www.kuryakyn.com/documents/installation/9405-25MC-1011.pdf

Why do you need/want the left side again?

I would add chucksterscustoms.com dual plate on the right side and then rig some sort of bracket to mount a stock dog bowl on the left side. If you need new dog bowls, I have a set I'll sell cheaply.

The dog bowl on the left would be purely for looks/balance. The right side would be the open element and would essentially perform like your hyper-charger, but look stock.

I must have misspoke, I don't want to add the left side again, I want to get rid of the Hypercharger and do the modified Caddman (just a filter assembly on the right side) in its place. The Hypercharger is too uncomfortable for long rides, and I bought the bagger for longer rides!

Do you still have the stock intake? If not, you can't do the Caddman, but Chuckster's kit is close.

Nope, only have the Hypercharger... I guess I'll have to look into the Chucksters kit. I really liked the $30 option though...

I tried to go that route first and failed miserably! I put the stock stuff back on and ordered Chuckster's single kit the next day. Get it and it'll save you the headache and time trying to put it on. Chuckster's single kit is the best!

If the Hypercharger is anything like the Baron's Big Air Kit, the stock intake had to be gutted to install it. That means the reed valves have been blocked, all the hoses were pulled, the solenoids removed, the crossover tube was cut out... The PO actually saved you a lot of time. It'll take you less than 10 minutes to remove the Hypercharger, and no time at all to install another intake that doesn't interfere with your leg. Barons makes several that fit close to the engine... Unfortunately, there aren't many options to fill in that space on the left side of the engine. Here's one: http://www.chaparral-racing.com/Product/kuryakyn-v-shield-engine-cover/025-7715.aspx?gclid=CI6rw4zy2LICFVGd4AodJ2MAYg

Just want to throw it out there for people that are undecided about a Chucksters intake...

I was upgrading from a Hypercharger to Chucksters Intake. Joe was very helpful pre sale and shipped it out immediately when I bought it. Got it tonight and went to install after work. Some things were a little different on my bike because I bought it used with the Hypercharger as opposed to stock intake. It was 7:30 on a Friday night, I was pissed that I might not be able to ride til Monday when Joe was back in the office. I wrote him a quick email with a picture, he wrote back before I could even wash my hands to give up for the night!!! That is AMAZING customer service and I would not hesitate to buy from him again. Superior product, fast shipping and unparalled customer service.

The bike is immediately more comfortable without that Hypercharger and looks amazing. The intake looks good sitting up there (single plate, as the left side dogbowl was removed)

Unfortunately I broke the thread portion of my air intake sensor removing it from the Hypercharger so I couldn't ride tonight. I made a bead around the outside of the intake with RTV silicone and placed the sensor in it. Hopefully that holds and saves me $40+ shipping for a new one!

Spoon, We'll be talking soon. I too bought a nomad with the Hypercharger already installed. I do not have the original equipment intake and want to go the chuckster route. I agree. For extended rides, the Hypercharger is unbearable!

Do it, you won't regret it! Its very simple to do. The Hypercharger comes off in "layers", you just have to unbolt each layer and gently pry apart where the gaskets are. Once it is apart and off the throttle body you disconnect both vacuum lines and the air temp sensor. Be VERY careful with the air temp sensor, I broke the threads off mine.

With everything off, you cap the smaller diameter vacuum line. The kit comes with rubber caps meant for something on the stock intake, I used one of those caps that fit perfectly on the smaller line. The larger diamater line fits into the fitting on the back of the base plate, as does the air sensor. Since I broke my threads, I laid a little bit of ATV silicone and placed my sensor in that way. I waited overnight for the silicone to dry, then mounted the base plate. Use some locktite and bolt the base plate up. Once that is on, line up the filter and bolt on the front cover and you are done. It is literally a 10 minute job if you don't break the air temp sensor.

Chucksters is a great product with fast shipping and ultra competitive pricing. Joe himself stands behind his product and has amazing customer service.

The bike is completely different now with the lower profile intake. First off, I think it looks great with the open intake. It is amazing how much room that HC actually took up, and the comfort level of being able to place your whole foot on the boards or actually stretch out on some pegs is incredible. It makes the bike even more comfortable!

Even better, the HC fits on the Classic and Meanstreak 1500 FI engines so its pretty easy to find someone who wants it. Its not a bad intake, its just not comfortable on longer cruises... and that is the exact reason I bought the Nomad! I sold mine to recoup the money from Chucksters, so thats a bonus. I basically got this intake for free!

Feel free to send me a PM or email if you have any more questions, but I promise you that you will be 100% satisfied with this intake!!!

The Hypercharger bolts to the stock throttle body on the RH side of the engine. It's instalation requires removing the idle solenoids, tape/stow the wires and block off the vacum lines. Thats all work you must do if you do a chuckster or simular RH side only aircleaner mod. Your new backing plate that the air cleaner element sits on will bolt to the throttle body just like the Hyper-Charger did. It is a piece of cake unless the HC installer did other stuff to the bike.
Just a FYI for the HyperCharger users out there, the Valve guides to a small block chevy (you can get tons of them free from any machine shop that does engine work) make perfect extensions for you RH running board mount which solves the problem of the HC brushing up agains your RH calf. The guids ID match the bolts you must us and the OD matches the board hinge fittings. Get 2 guides, cut them to 1 1/2 inch length, spray them flat black, install between running board hinge and RH foot brake assembley mount with 2 longer high strength bolts and for less than $10 you don't need to remove your HC.

Thanks Spoon on the info on what to do with both vacuum lines. I too bought a Nomad with a HC. I just don't like the way it looks. It's a cruiser not an sport bike.
If you have a PCIII you may want to look and see if your still running the right map.
With a laptop it's an easy change

I do have a PCIII, not entirely certain how to use it though. I downloaded the Power Commander app on my computer and haven't had a chance to play with it just yet.

All you need to do is down load the maps. There are only three to pick from.
You should first save your map for a backup. Then pick one of the three maps depending on your exhaust.
(you need to have your ignition on) Then just hit the send map button and it should be done. You need a USB to a mini USB cable. Small cameras and some cell phones use use this type of cable so you may have one.
There are more than three maps but only three will do you any good

The very first "mod" I did to my bike was the "Floorboard Space Maker" off of Gadget's website. It helped but didn't do the trick for me. Was never able to fully relax my right leg with the Hypercharger. The floorboards can only be moved about 3/4" because of the length of the brake line.

My pcIII was set to map M220-003 which is Roadhouse exhaust-Hypercharger airbox.
M220-002 Is Vance & Hines exhaust stock or aftermarket air filter. I have V&H exhaust and Hypercharger airbox. Thats another reason I want to get rid of the Hypercharger.

I know this is an old thread but I just bought my '03 Nomad today and it has that damned Hypercharger installed. I thought I was going to crash when I made my first stop and couldn't find the rear brake pedal. My short 65 mile ride home would have been great if not for the Hypercharger rubbing against my leg the whole distance. I have none of the original air cleaner parts that were removed to install the Hypercharger. I do have a Kuryakyn V-Shield Engine Cover on the left side of the engine so I'm assuming I'm good there. Looking at
http://www.chucksterscustoms.com/Home/ProductDetail?PartNumber=CC-KAIS-BP I'm not sure exactly what I need to buy for my 2003 1500 F.I. Nomad. I'm guessing it would be "Kawasaki Vulcan FI Nomad (VN1500 Vn1600) $175.00" ?

I need to get that Hypercharger off ASAP. I do not like having to search for the rear brake pedal, especially on a "new to me" bike.
Could the Baron Big Air Kit be used in this situation? http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/big-air-kit-chrome-pinstripe-kawasaki-15001600-efi/part/BA-2070-13
Thanks, Hoppy

Thank you for the welcome Robert and the information. Chuckster just called me and is going to get me all set up.
I'm looking forward to learning all I can on this forum. This is my first Kawasaki since my 1969 H1 Mach 111 so it has been awhile.

I'm pretty sure that is what chuckster suggested. I'll have to look them over better between now and when I actually order it and see what I can use and what I like the best out of my choices.

What intake you decide on comes down to personal preference. There are a ton of really nice options out there, I Personally prefer the plain chrome 9x2 filters and covers. Even with the crossover tube cut I would assume you could still mount an air box on the left if thats the look you were going for. I know my left side isn't doing anything i just like the symmetry.

My 08 1600 came with a Hypercharger
I have put around 36k miles on my bike with a Hypercharger, and it does stick out some but I quickly got used to it, no problem.
I think its very cool lookin! Would never want to remove it!
I did have some issues with the butterflies rattling, so I just removed them.
It does make cleaning the throttle body more difficult, but now I just spray carb/injector cleaner into engine while its running and so far so good.
I am averaging around 42 MPG with mid grade gas. VH pipes and no fuel processor.

I sent chuckster a message that evening and had a phone call from him the following morning. Great customer service. I'm kinda getting used to the Hypercharger now that I have put a few miles on and I'm not having a problem finding the brake pedal, which was my main concern. I'm going to leave the Hypercharger on for a while and see if it still bothers me. I like the looks of it and if it doesn't have an adverse affect on performance or mileage I will just leave it alone.

I just couldn't ride my 2003 Nomad 1500 FI for more than 150 miles without increased back pain because of the HyperCharger sticking so far out. Plus finding the brake pedal in a hurry was scary because of it. I pulled off the HyperCharger and put one of Chuckster's Single Plate BAK's in it's place. What a difference. So much more comfortable to ride it is like a different bike. I haven't noticed any real difference in performance after the swap. MPG's have fallen off though. I was getting about 37 mpg and now about 32 mpg. I have Cobra True Dual Slash Cuts and a Power Commander 3. I'll have to hook up the Powercommander to my PC and see what map the PO was running. Probably would be a good idea if I checked the TPS setting before I mess with the maps and see where I am with it first. I tried running 86 octane in it this past weekend and would get a bit of pinging when accelerating, especially under a load. Occasionally I would get a slight ping when running premium fuel, which is what I have been running since I purchased my Nomad this summer.
Oh....I personally really liked the looks of the HyperCharger on the Nomad and thought Chuckster's BAK would not look as good. I was wrong. It looks pretty damned good on it.
