The PGR in NW LA has a very important mission this Sat afternoon. We lost a young soldier this past week and will be taking him to his final duty station in Minden, LA. The infamous Westboro Baptist Church is coming to demonstrate at this patriot's funeral and I'm asking for healing prayers for the family and prayers of strength for the PGR and their mission.
Anyone close enough to join the ride can meet the PGR at the staging area of the First Baptist Church in Minden, LA at 1:00 p.m.

My prayers are with this young soldier and his family. Wish I could be there to join the PGR and ride with them.

What are they protesting, their freedom of religion?

It is truly a sad situation that a death of any kind during the funeral is protested. They have no values or morals and should suffer the same wrath they profess to represent at those protests.

What are we becoming a nation of?

Thoughts and prayers for the family. Thank God the PGR will be there to shield them from "Rev." Phelps and his misguided flock.

You should check out the WBC website there is no logic as to why they protest at military funerals. What they say and do in the name of God is disgusting.

My disgust for that group of scum is at about the same level as I have for child molesters.

However, they have sparked an awareness of the sacrifice made by those who serve the country. Last week, we had a funeral for Cpl. Kurt Shea here in MD. During a week day, we had 50 bikes show up. Hundreds attended the church service. "Civilians" lined the 1.5 mile road to the cemetery holding flags to show their support to Cpl. Shea's family. It was covered extensively on the local media.

Without Westboro, I'm not sure any of that would have happened. Sometimes, bad things help you to better appreciate the good things.

We have our Highway of Heroes in Canada. Too many of our boys coming home in caskets along there lately. But they are our Heroes and we have a VERY low tolerance for those who choose to use that cavalcade, memorials or funerals to work their own agenda whatever that may be.

We Canadians are usually kinda low key about some things but NOT THAT! So we rarely see that kind of demonstration thing around our fallen.

Just a quick up date.... We had over 350 bikes make the ride to the funeral and over 250 in the escort to the cemetary. Very impressive!

It's nice to know that these "loons" are coming out of the woodwork! We have to know where the Devil is hiding!!! It's obvious now!

How about showing up with signs that read, "Westboro Baptist Church is sponsered by Satan"

I wonder if they (protestors) got in the families face and got their a$$ kicked if they could find a jury that would side with the protesters?? I think it's time to take up arms and man a post!!

I agree with you, BD. As a pastor, I am appalled, infuriated, and otherwise vexed by these people. This is NOT the behavior Jesus Christ called for His followers to demonstrate. The rationale for their behavior is twisted, and cannot be supported from Scripture. As Bob said, Their behavior HAS served to call attention to the sacrifices made by our honored soldiers.

I was told about a soldier's funeral up in Montana, where Phelps's crew planned to show up. When they showed up, the local sheriff informed them that they had the right to protest, but, seeing as many of the people living around there were excellent shots with a long gun, and the area was surrounded by mountains, he could not guarantee their safety if they protested (and I am sure he said all that, while smiling on the inside). They halfheartedly walked around a little, then left. Didn't seem to have the stomach for it I guess.
