Fuel filter?

I was reading a thread about running out of gas, imagining some dirt getting sucked into the fuel system with the last drop of fuel. Got me thinking, does the Nomad have any fuel filter? If not, has anyone added one or used one?

I'll probably look into a way of putting an in-line filter or something on if it doesn't already have one, or am I just worried about nothing?

Thanks for your input!!!

My 99 has an inline fuel filter. Actually it has 2 because I have 2 tanks. :)

Fuel filter?

I beleive the 1600 has a fuel screen inside of the tank. I read a post somewhere about it getting plugged and the person had to remove the tank and take apart the tank and the fuel pump in the tank to get to the screen. The owners manuel states there is no fuel filter which was one of the first things I was looking for. I have thought about adding one myself but forgot until you brought it up. The problem is the fuel pump is in the tank, so a filter would stop the containments getting into the engine but not the pump. Thus the pump could get ruined and then there would be no fuel.

I'd think an inline filter would always be good, but you don't want to run an FI Nomad dry, can do fuel pump damage, or so I hear.

You cant run a 1600 DRY. you can run out of gas and stop, but still have 1/2-3/4 gallon of un usable gas. So fuel pump wont ever be damaged. i would think a fuel filter has to be somewhere on 1600.

I don't agree with that Doc as a broad statement for all Nomads. I have put 4.8 to 5.1 gallons in mine few times.

Shoeney's right, it's in my trunk. Additional 3.5 gallons.

Yup per gadit at the above link "Vulcan 1600's (5.3 gallon tank) have a screen on the fuel pump but no replaceable filter. So, if you have an '01-04 Nomad or Classic this page is for you!"

Umm, is there any harm to the injectors with no fuel filter? Should this be a mod to be done?

Fuel filter?

The 1600 Nomads (2005-2008) do have a fuel filter. It is incorporated in the fuel pump assembly as well as the fuel screen. It is not replaceable by itself. You would need to replace the entire fuel pump assembly. See the following photo taken from the 1600 Service Manual:

Fuel filter?

Thanks for the information! I found that page in the manual and I am shaking my head a little on there not being a replaceable fuel filter on the Nomad. Guess we have to have faith Kawa engineers are right on not likely needing to replace them :'(

Still might look into putting one in just for piece of mind and to save any worries of something getting past the internal filter and clogging an injector. I haven't seen any posts on this so far so I am guessing it is not a problem for anyone. Thanks again for the input!

Audio,
Where did you get that tank? Great idea! Your bike must get poor gas mileage like my 2000 1500. I like to carry a couple of extra gallons on long trips in my rear box but I have to stop to put it in.
