Plastic oil pump gear failure

G'day from OZ, this is my first post here.
My '96 Nomad 1500 has had the POG fail and I am looking for a repair answer that will not cost me a fortune. The Australian national distributor will not consider a Factory Authorised Repair and the dealer is talking mega dollars. I have tried to contact Judges steel Gear for one of his ingenious replacement gear kits but so far have not heard back. Does anyone know of another option ?

I don't know of another repair, but Judge is a hard guy to get hold of. Id keep trying to reach him as the other alternative of replacing it with factory parts is a lot of work. Check on the VROC forum or Delphi vulcan, they may have some news about him.
And welcome to the forum from Ontario Canada.

Judge's gear is worth the money. My 99 is running with one inside. I just didn't trust the dealer to install a factory gear. The install was not hard to do.

That's okay, I didn't know they made one before 1999.

Might just be a typo; maybe should have been a 98. Judge's gear is the da bomb!

FAS for the POG are now over, ended in Sept 09 according to what I have been reading. So, if your's went dead, your only alternatives are to pay to have the stealer do it or get a JOG and do it yourself.

Ditto to what Coach said. we just had someone post on another vulcan forum saying that their pog wentout and that kawasaki is no longer covering the cost for repair. Supposedly Kawasaki claimed that 10 years of fixing the problem is long enough.

Kawasaki's method requires engine removal and splitting the transmission. Ugly and expensive.

Judge's Oil Gear goes in from the clutch side plate. Very reasonable, especially if you can do it yourself.

Phone Judge - he doesn't seem to answer e-mails for some reason.

Good luck, and let us know how you do...

Yes, I got it wrong in my first post - my Nomad is a '98.
I sent Judge an Email and got a reply , just lucky I guess. Thanks for the responses, looks like Judges is the way to go.

When your ready to install the new gear, make sure you have everything absolutely clean and wipe it down with rubbing alcohol, use NEW Red Loctite, when you reassemble. If you don't, there is a chance it won't hold and youll be doing it again. Pay attention to these details and it will all go back smoothly.

From what I understand, Judge travels a lot for his day job and may not always respond immediately, but he is a stand-up guy and will get back to you, eventually.
