Is the gas any cheaper in surrounding states? I imagine California is probably the most expensive in the lower 48.

Here you go Ponch. Only Hawaii is higher than California. Oregon is $0.40 cheaper.

I don't plan on ridin' my Nomad at all this year. I'll show those Arabs.
I'll set home and watch TV. Let them eat their stinki' oil. The Nomads stay in the garage. Who's with me. ???

Odd thing about Oregon being cheaper is it is required by law that the attendant has to fill up your car....not self serve. You would think that would make it more expensive.

Don't worry about filling up your bike....the attendants will hand you the nozzle to do it yourself (or just let you from the start).

By the way for all that care ....Oregon does not have any sales tax so if you want to buy something it will probably be cheaper in Oregon.

How can they do that you ask? How about 9% state income tax !

I live on the Washington/Oregon border....no State income tax in Washington and no sales tax in Oregon...that is why Money magazine voted Vancouver, WA best tax haven in US back in the 80's. But that has changed some lately, starting with a .18 per gallon WA gas tax.

I used to think if "they don't have it they can't spend it" but the deficit took care of that theory.

New Jersey has the same thing. You can't pump it yourself, but gas is a lot cheaper in NJ than NY.

The only state more expensive on EVERYTHING than NY is California.

Westcoast Rally and the Price of Gas

I live in Crescent City and right now regular is $4.09, but it will go up again and again. And when the tourists get here it will probably be over $5.00 so be prepared. We are thirty miles from Brookings Oregon and so I usually fill the car and there. The bike mileage is good enough that I don't feel the pain too bad when I fill up. Just a note the Curley Redwood Lodge is right across the street from our harbor. I work in the boat basin part time. The tusnami made a real mess, sunk 16 boats and tore out the docks. Lots of people hurting right now. But, we didn't lose any lives here. And everything will be back in place by the rally. I'm looking forward to meeting you folks.
