Cam chain tensioners

was still getting noise from the front cylinder even after adjusting cam chain tensioner.......push rod on front cyclinder tensioner was all the way in......rear cylinder also.....went ahead and pulled the front tensioner (interesting job since stock air intake still in place)....found the push bar extended all the way out with no more extension left......the bike has just shy of 16,000 miles....maybe someone with more mechanical knowledge of the nomad can tell me...16,000 seems low for the tensioner to be fully extended....is this normal......any ideas why it would be to full travel....i am going to get the chuckster extensions and put on them and see if that helps.

thanks for any feedback

Cam chain tensioners

Seems like most put the extenders in around 30,000 miles, although it's not unusual to see them go in at 12,000 or 50,000. I wouldn't worry about it, just put the extenders in and go ride! :)

Daryl,

How many miles do you have on your '99? Did you install cam chain extenders? I'm about to turn over 36,000 and am starting to get curious about them.

Cam chain tensioners

I've got about 42,000 miles on my Nomad, which is pretty sad considering it's a 99. But I do have a limited riding season. I put the extenders in at 30,780 miles. It's really easy to check the travel on the stock tensioners, so there's no guess work as to whether or not you need them. Gadget's page has the procedure for checking them with pictures.

You need to RETIRE audio.

Your lips to God's ear!
I still have one son to get through college. Two down, one to go. Then...maybe...nah, I really do love what I do.

Cam chain tensioners

Thanks, AG! You da man!

I'm not able to ride very far from home this weekend due to work, so I'll probably have time to check the tensioners.
