3M 1080 wrap stripes
I thought the Nomad might look good with stripes, but I wasn't about to paint over my beautiful black shiny paint. After looking into vinyl wraps I found this nice satin pearl white 3M 1080 film, which is supposed to be easy to remove and easy on the finish.
Anyhoo, I only put a 3" stripe on the tank and the lid of the trunk. Not sure if I will go with more on the saddlebags, but I am very happy with the results. Plus, if I get tired of them, away they go. Tons of colors, finishes, textures in the 1080, and a 1' x 5' chunk cost me $15 shipped. The camera's flash makes it look like it is reflective, and it is not, really. But it does have the pearl metallic-essence and it is off white like slightly golden. This - HERE IT IS ON EBAY Have a look... Login or Register to Remove Ads |

Hey, not a bad idea. One person has to start the process, then others will follow and who knows where it will end up.
I say go with it! Heck, you may even go ahead and do the fenders and keep the stripe continuous.

BigRat thanks for sharing despite some people's lack of appreciation. I've been messing around with vinyl for decades (I make signs and have my own cutting plotter) and vinyl makes a great alternative to paint for permanent or temporary graphics. I just recently got some experience with 3M's 1080 wrap vinyl and it was pretty eye-opening. That stuff can be stretched to conform around compound curves like crazy, maybe more than you'd need for the relatively flat places you used it so far but more like if you were doing a full tank or luggage. Here's my maiden voyage into printed vehicle "wraps" which kinda kicked my butt a little - with some experience I think I could get a lot quicker at it, but the customer was very happy!

ID-Man - NICE WORK! I'd LOVE to have access to a plotter - you could really have some fun with it. That 1080 is my first time playing with wrap. I looked into the DiNoc, but I was under the impression that it was a PITA to remove, otherwise I might like to try the stripe in Bubinga wood vinyl...

A few are engineered for easy removal but most are not, still you can get any of them off with heat and patience. I had to look up the DiNoc vinyl and man that's nice, thanks for sharing. I'm not so sure about woodgrain on a bike, seems very 80s somehow.

Now you got me thinking too, whether that 1080 "Chrome" can wrap around things like a side cover or front forks. Hmmmm <strokes chin thoughtfully>
