New stereo

I purchased a couple of used stereos to install in my aftermarket fairing to see which one I liked best and would work best on the bike. The first was an Eclipse AVN4430 with a removable TomTom GPS.

The setup was easy but I couldn't see the GPS in direct sunlight.

The second was a Pioneer AppRadio.

This was more complicated to setup as it needed a parking brake bypass. The screen allows me to change the brightness and contrast or put things in night view mode which allows me to see the screen in sunlight. The AppRadio runs applications that are installed on the iPhone and are compatible with AppRadio. My GPS is now iGO primo and Motion X Drive depending on the cell coverage. I can just plug my iPhone in and have full access to my iTunes library, messages, weather, maps, browser, etc. The AppRadio also has the ability to hook up a rear camera and has a microphone for hands free calling if I decide to go that route.

This is still in the early stages but the AppRadio works great so far. The music on the AppRadio is louder than on the Eclipse AVN4430 even though they both use the same amp.

Will get a pic of the installed radio tomorrow. I still have to find a trim piece that can be added around the radio edges.

Cool project! If that's an automotive double din sized stereo there are a bunch of trim rings on ebay and elsewhere. I got one for my Trans Am at Double D Mods.

It is a double din but the AppRadio seems to have a slightly smaller piece that sticks out further than the radio itself. I'll have to check with Pioneer to see what they made for it. If I don't end up finding something I'll have the body shop deal with it over the winter.
