Water Pump Drain Hose
mep.
I think you were smart to insist! I have 31,000 on my 07 now. 18,000 of those miles are after the water pump shaft and seal replacement and the hose is bone dry. IMHO, water pumps shouldn't "weep" coolant. Continue to watch things closely on your bike. It could have been just the seal and then you are good to go but if it is the shaft that caused the damage to the seal then you'll see the problem repeat in about 6,000 miles. On the OEM shaft that we replaced on my bike there were just a couple spots that felt alot like when chrome starts to pit, just a couple tiny spots on the water pump impeller side but they were enough. The guy that did my repair (a engine builder and not a Kaw tech) also used a leather strap machine to polish the shaft. He said they do that to the rod bearing surfaces on crankshafts to some of the motors that they build and it helps reduce friction so he figured it might extend the life of the seal a bit.
