Short Notice Elkins Ride

Hi everyone,

I appologize for the short notice but I wanted to announce a Elkins, WV ride that is going to occur Saturday Aug 23rd and Sunday Aug 24th. I am leading a small group of coworkers there from Virginia Beach and we will be spending the night at the Super 8 where the rally was held.

We are departing Virginia Beach at 7 am on the 23rd primarily on route 10 to Richmond and expect to be passing by Richmond on route 295 around 9 am. We are going to travel route 33 through Harrisonburg, VA and then onto Seneca Rocks and Elkins.

My ride plan has us checking into the hotel and then doing an 85 mile round trip ride past the wind mills and Blackwater Falls before dark on Saturday.

Sunday morning is breakfast at Bob Evans and then taking a southern route 250 out of Elkins to Staunton, VA -- we are then traveling 64 to 295 to route 460 back to Virginia Beach.

Room in Elkins is $68.60.

Everyone is welcome to join us for a ride that is primarily about riding and seeing the country side It will be all gps navigated and the routes are already saved. (we won't or rather don't have the time to get lost in the blue ridge mountains...LOL)

PM me if you are interested in meeting up with us anywhere along the way and we can make arrangements as to when and where. Lastly, bring a camera because it will be a beautiful weekend!

Thanks,
Brian

Sounds like a great ride but I can't make it. Not enough time to get back to take care of Mom's dog while she leaves town. Have a fantastic time and tell the hills hello for me!!

I'm heading north from VB that day and about that time and can tag along all the way to Harrisonburg where I will follow I81 north. Sounds like fun and I'm willing to go along. Where to meet?

That sounds great Racinchef. We are departing about 7:30 am from Indian River Rd in the parking lot behind the Shoney's and 7-11. It is right near I-64. I will contact you with the details.

Short Notice Elkins Ride

The Elkins (2) trip was rather fast and involved a lot of seat time. I was leading by gps speed (actual travel speed) on the way up and back and that ALWAYS looks pretty fast on the ole' odometers. Our mission was mountain riding!

The highlights of the trip was getting to meet Bruce (Racinchef), riding again with Mike and Sheila (Classic1), and stopping by Staunton on the return trip to visit Mark and Paula (Mark). Mike Heimann enjoyed the Elkins ride and meeting the other Nomad owning folk.

At one point at Elkton, VA we had 4 Nomads riding together with 1 Vulcan 900 in tow. It was a good feeling. I am including a few pics that will bring back memories for some of you. We road into the Appalachian region via Route 33 from Harrisonburg, VA and departed via route 250 to Staunton, VA. I truly believe that route 250 from Elkins, WV to Staunton, VA is the best riding in the nation. I just wish it wasn't so far from Virginia Beach! :(" title="" border="0"/> I envy Mark and Classic1 for having the fun roads literally in their back yard.

The Nomads meeting in Elkton, VA

Racinchef ready to fuel up for his Vermont journey.

Mike (Fedcop - I think on the forum) at the Thomas, WV windmills

Blackwater Falls

The guys - Steve (the Vulcan 900 rider), Mike (Fedcop), Brian (DUI546), and Mike (Classic1)

Would ya just look at that view!

I was and still am having some problems with photobucket. The link wasn't loading properly and it was super slow. I finally got it corrected in order to resize the photos. Thanks again to everyone who made the ride a success, especially Classic1 for leading in the mountains. The Virginia Beach contingency logged a little over 750 miles during this two day round trip. We look forward to getting more Nomads involved in riding as a group in the South Hampton Roads area.

We were discussing that it would be a good idea to try to meet in Mt Airy NC during the infamous Mayberry days. This would be a central location for the Virginia and North Carolina Kawanow members. Any thoughts?
