This is a fairly common modification to stock exhaust systems. Did the same thing to my old Volusia 5 years ago. Definitely was louder. I will wait to do the Nomad pipes until more of you post your thoughts on the sound. Deep rumble or a bark?

Trip, I told you a year and a half ago we could put my gutted stock pipes on your bike to see if it was what you wanted to do.[/quote:jzbtvxb4]

Yeah but......yeah but......yeah but. I guess I don't remember that conversation....LOL.

Yes I painted the ends since the saw removed the paint. It looks darker than the picture. VHT bar-b-que flat black

Thanks for the pic, BD. The cuts you made look very nice. The end result looks better than I thought.

Do me a favor and let me know once you've gotten to ride a while on the highway at high speeds. I'd like to know if the bike is too loud or not. That's my only stopping point right now. I want to give it a little time and see how you like it after riding it for a while.

Tinkered around with it for a little while before I took my boy out trick-or-treating. I had a new bit that was probably made for wood because it barely scratched the metal and it wore the saw down pretty good So if I get serious about it I'll have to go buy one for cutting metal. for some reason the 1 3/4 looks small to me. There is a grove around the outside of the stock exaust hole and the 1-3/4 is literaly a hair larger than where the groove sits. Is this right?

The younster is questioning Lord Brad
Just kidding wolf. It would seem to me you would want the saw to be a little larger than the groove. The groove is probably where they welded the tube to the rest of the pipe. But what the he11 do I know. Just my opinion :)

That's exactly correct topcat. the saw blade fits right at the rolled edge just outside the groove. That's why you need a real good blade and the wooden dowel to keep in there!

But you'll enjoy the ride so much more! Now that your bike doesn't sound like it's pooting.

WTG BD, I think you did a good job on this. Just one of the reason I keep coming back everyday.

Thanks

OK I'm back from home depot. Did the surgery on pipes. Figured if I didn't like it there is always stock exhaust systems on EBAY for real cheap.
It is very slightly louder and much lower in tone. I like it so far. Going to go for a ride as soon as I finish my oil change. Will keep you posted.

I have been trying for 2 hours to get the filter off the bike :(
Just to be sure, if I am standing directly behind the bike I want to turn the filter to the left to remove it , correct? That thing will just not budge. I have changed it before but now I am second guessing myself :-[
