Question Final Drive Oil

I bought my 2006 Nomad 1600 used with 6700 miles on it and it has around 8500 miles on it now. The guy I bought it from told me it had the 7000 miles service done on it, but I have no idea if the final drive oil has ever been changed. With that being said, I have a couple of questions about the final drive oil. 1. Was wondering how often everyone is changing their final drive oil in their Nomads? 2. What type and brand are you using?
Thanks

It's very easy to do and uses hardly any oil.

I change mine once a year. I use Mobil 1 Synthetic 75W-90.

It is a simple procedure so when I change my engine oil at 3,000 miles I change the final drive oil. No sense in leaving it in since it is so simple to do while you are changing your oil and filter. A quart of Mobil 1 75W-90 fully synthetic lasts a long time. You can use any brand you prefer. I just happen to have the Mobil 1 and it seems to do a good job. When changing the final drive oil once it has drained when refilling be sure and place the side stand on the flat side of a piece of 2X4. The book says to have the bike level but if you do that you will over fill it and cause seal problems. Fill it until the oil starts running back out and then just screw in the fill cap.

About six ounces, put a 2x4 under the kickstand and fill it to the top hole.

It happens to us all as we get older. Glad I'm not getting older.

Just look for the gl-5 rating or higher in an 80- 90 gear oil and your good to go.
