Relay

I am replacing the stock horn with two electric horns. Do I need to use a relay for this replacement? I used one on the Mean Streak but I had a Stebel airhorn on it.

Thanks for any response.

I would, the stock setup is still for just one horn. For how cheap they are and how easy it is to throw one in there really is no reason not to.

Thanks! I was leaning that way but if it wasn't necessary, I was going the easy way!

Yes use a relay, there is a schematic here in our tech section.

Or better yet, set up a relayed fuse block and run all your accessories to it.

And if you setup a fuse block, check out my post on keeping a clean side compartment and grab a fuse block from easternbeaver.com

+1 on Easternbeaver.com. They have excellent products. I've purchased two of their relay pre-assembled patch cables for my bikes going to a Blue Sea Fuse Block. Super easy install.

I'm sure the easternbeaver fuse blocks are nice, but what's so nice about them for $60?

I purchased a universal fuse block (bolted to support above battery) from AutoZone for $5. I connected a relay to the fuse block and I run all my accessories (radio, gps, tfi fuel processor, volt meter, heated gloves, light-bar) to it.

It's worked great for over a year. (The tape on the wires is to help me remember what each wire goes to)

Thats a fuse box on switched power. Wiring your horn through a relay takes the current load off the thumb switch, nothing else.
