Stan's right. In the summer, even after not driving my truck for a day or two, when I turn the ignition the temp gauge moves up a couple of notches before it's started. The engine is already at 110-120 degrees just sitting there.

Although 10W-40 engine oil is the recommended oil
for most conditions, the oil viscosity may need to be
changed to accommodate atmospheric conditions in
your riding area.

I am still using Rotella 15/40. I noticed no difference using the Rotella synthetic versions. I change around 3000 miles but longer trips I go farther. For long hot trips I have a store of original 15/50 Mobil 1 redcap.

I have tested the 15/40 at the local long haul truck shop and there has been negligible oil breakdown up to 6000k.

It's not even a cost thing. When I am changing oil and filter, I am also taking the time to go over the machine to spot other possibilities and I always change the oil before storing for the winter and after.

I am sure you could go longer on Amsoil and other synthetics.
