I believe this is the most divergent hijacking of a thread I have ever encountered. Then again, probably time to leave the other topic behind.

Reading this has truly saddened my heart. Not so much for Dan's leaving, although he will be missed, but for the sub-topic that came out of it. The discussion of citizenship was brought up. I learned just this past year that my family is quite new to the USA. I learned that my grandfather was 3 when they came to this country and that my father was drafted in Vietnam was dismissed because of my grandfather's health so he was needed on the farm. It was quite shocking to me to realize that my family's history as Americans could nearly have been limited to a single generation. I missed this entire episode of events as I was busy celebrating Independence Day. I wonder how differently things might have gone here on the forum if instead of the holiday argument there had been more cold beer, grilled meat, and fireworks (the kind that require outdoors)?

Sad events and I am sorry that we have once again come to that place, but this is a great group and we will move forward with brotherhood and good tidings.
