Just pay attention for guard rails when making turns and you will be fine!

Not to drift off the subject Gibby, but the Honda in your sig (at this moment) is exactly the same bike I started on at around 10-11 years of age. LMAO! Loved that thing! (My math may be wrong... I am 57 now, soon to be 58... so what year did these first come out?)

Oh... by the way... it wasn't mine. Childhood friend's father loved motorcycles and bought all kinds for them for the boys. So when they wanted to ride out in the hills and fields on their property (about 200 acres) I was able to ride their bikes. What a lucky guy I was at that age. I still keep in touch with them; but oddly enough... none of them ride motorcycles any longer.

I believe that is a Honda Mini Trail 70. When I was a youth my parents had a place on the lake in Northern MN and my brother and I talked my pops into buying 2 of them to use at the lake. We always had homemade mini bikes and go carts but these little Hondas were the first store bought bikes we had. We beat the crap out of them and they took the abuse well. Great memories.

1969... so I was 14 at the time. Those things were a riot and actually were able to go fairly fast. Prior to that is was hand-welded mini-bikes with B&S engines on them and a centrifugal clutch. Street use only; but we tried the dirt trails. Busted a few frames; and I believe possibly caused some of the back damage I am now suffering from.

On yet another note, I was going to take off on the bike this morning and do about a 200 mile loop north; however thunder and lightening is everywhere -- and more is coming yet. I see a fairly large system taking-out most of your area and most of mine soon.

Hopefully it will pass by noon and I can ride this afternoon.

Trail 70's were awesome. My first 2 wheeler was a Honda Trail 55, not the small frame but the full frame. Similar to the Trail 90.Honda ruled the roost with kids back then. Fun days. I am 55.

If anyone is ever in Portland Oregon one of the local dealers (Beaverton Honda) has an amazing collection of 1960-1980 Hondas on display. I am guessing about 100 or more. Trail 50's to early Gold Wings. Sorry about the hijack.

Congrats on the new bike.

I would say an overwhelming number of current riders had at least one experience with a Honda or other metric bike when they were young. You are right though, those bikes were great and practically bullet-proof. The abuse we gave to them was unbelievable and they still worked just fine. Kind-of wish I still had one just to mess around on...

Oh... and as far as hijacking the thread... sorry but that already happened. And by the way... our conversation about the early days should give Sally confidence that she can ride a bike if we can!

You'll be able to do mud-slides in the corners...

Way to go, Sally! Congrats on your new bike which should make your learning curve much quicker. Oh yeah, I know how it felt to wedge my bike under a guard rail too, on the same day! BnG
