..I'v never been through there on my bike (maybe years ago when interstate trucking)...However doing a --scopin it out--, on GOOGLE EARTH...I looks like Shoals IN on highway #50..MAy.. have a traffic light or two !...and there seems to be more open farm land on #50....
based on my personal preferences...and by studying google earth...I'd be tempted to try State Route Rt #450... Good Luck |

450 has less traffic.....better ride if looking for curves/hills/etc.......covered bridge/williams dam/small store at halfway point.........visit shoals at south end and see jug rock and eat at bomacs drivein. 50 has more traffic that can be difficult to get around at times. My favorite is easily 450.

Trip Report
Just got back from the weekend trip. We rode Route 1 in Illinois up to Carmi and then used I64 to connect to I69. We normally do not like interstate travel but 69 was very nice. We got off on Route 50 and rode through Loogootee. Just outside of Loogootee we turned on 450 and rode it to Bedford. 450 was very nice! Lots of curves and scenery. We rode through Bedford and stopped at a little mom and pop motel called Plaza Motel. $48 bucks got us a clean room with a fridge and a microwave. Dish Network too! The motel was far enough out of town that nobody would deliver a pizza (until we bribed them with a $20.00 tip). Pizza delivered! Money talks. The next morning found us on SR 446 going across Lake Monroe. We stopped at The Cabin Lounge for eggs, coffee, biscuits and gravy. The food was good and the people were nice! Then on to SR 46 to Nashville. We spent a few hours in Nashville eating and shopping. Nice place! Then we rode SR135 out of Nashville to Salem. 135 was the hi-light of the trip. Multiple curves, elevation changes and curves with elevation changes. Very challenging and lots of beautiful country. Then it was SR56 to Paoli on on to French Lick. We stayed at the French Lick Resort and enjoyed an evening of gambling at the casino. My better half won $336 and I lost $140. They comped our breakfast the next morning and the room was very reasonable. We came out ahead! We rode home the next morning taking SR145 across Patoka Lake on onto I64. Again I64 was a beautiful ride for an interstate highway. Across the river back to The Peoples Republic of Illinois. Then back to the 2 lane roads of SR1, 45, 13, and 37. And, then home-sweet-home. If you get a chance to travel in that area I highly recommend Indiana SR135 and the French Lick Resort!!!
