100OHM resistor?

I am in the midst of installing a "harley style" ignition switch in my instrument panel (top of tank). Mine is a FI 1500 . Looking at the gadget site, I see someone who did this, and he says I have to put a 100ohm, 1/2 watt resistor inline of the gray wire before winding it together with the brown wire and connecting to the switch lug.
My question is WHY? It didn't have a resistor before, so, why does it need one now, just because it's hooking to the brown wire? To stop any "crosstalk" between the two?
This one has me baffled, how about one of you electrical genius' help me out here? lol
thanks

It's an HD style switch your installing. That is why, as they have different resistance values, you are using that to MATCH the factory harness.

Ok; sounds reasonable. Different alloys on the contacts, etc. I suppose would cause different resistance values.
Do you know this to be true?
Thanks Scott.
