I was doing a little maintenance on the bike today and had an idea. If you remove the left side air cleaner assembly, like doing an open-air kit, you remove the cover, the filter, the backing plate and the bracket that supports the backing plate. This leaves the exposed end of the crossover tube. A lot of you have removed the tube, and usually end up cutting it and taking it out in two pieces.

I had an idea - a machined cover for the crossover tube. It would be functional as well as decorative. Even just a polished finish would be nice. I don't have the milling machine needed to build one, but I'll bet some of you either have one or have access to one.

I mention this hoping someone might take my idea and run with it. Since the 1600's are now discontinued, it's doubtful we'll see any new products for them from the aftermarket, unless a part or accessory can be shared between the 1600 and 1700.

So...is this a good idea or a waste of energy?

I thought I'd already seen a decorative product that covers the crossover opening Scott?? Not sure where but I'm positive I've seen pictures of it...

How about a big ram air scoop on there instead of a machined cover, lol.

Would be neat ideal for block off plate for the left side and maybe a bracket system to support a horn like this>

Well, okay - that just covers the area up. I meant a decorative plate to actually seal the end of the crossover tube. It would bolt on in place of the round air cleaner backing plate that's there now.

Thanks Joe! Let me see if I can come up with a Visio drawing and I'll send it to you.
