Interesting idea

This came to my email in-box. Should get some interesting discussion going.

TERRITORIAL ENTERPRISE
Thursday, November 4th, 2010 | Uncategorized | 12 Comments
Most people know that the State of California is an economic basket case. So much so that the idea of a federal bailout of the state has been proposed. Considering the composition of the new Congress, it’s not likely to happen but if the question should come up, Anita Hurley has an intriguing suggestion:

If CA asks for a Fed bailout, they have to be willing to give up statehood and go to territory status. No Reps, no Sens, just taxes.

There’s a lot to be said for an idea like that. If your state needs a bailout from Washington in order to keep going, then you have tacitly admitted that you can no longer make a go of it on you own. So your state has essentially “territorialized” itself.

Once again, considering the new Congress, I doubt this idea ever sees the light of day. And there are constitutional issues that need to be studied and clarified.

I’m not sure it’s necessary to remove a star from the American flag although you can make a good case that California should be reduced to territorial status, with one congressional representative without vote, until that money is paid back.

But if the question does come up, California’s senators and representatives should be permitted no input into the discussion at all(your bank doesn’t let you dictate the terms of your home loan). “You want federal money?” Sacramento should be told. “If you want a bailout, these are our terms and conditions. Take them or leave them.”

I like it! But it makes too much sense, and therefore will never be implemented by the buffoons in control. :-/

I couldn't agree more. Get rid of all the representatives they have. After all they have more than any other state. That would save taxpayers a bunch. Come to think of it why doesn't every state get rid of all but two representatives. Each state has two senators but tons of representatives. If two senators from each state can run things then I would think two representatives should be able to do the same.

I'ld be against it. The Feds are in the same boat and have been for 40 years. That is why most of you to include me have never seen legal money. Really research 1933 and the gold std.

Besides that we can write off Cal for that 13 trillion debt. That's right give the state to China. There is only one guy living there that would even notice any difference. BD

Maybe BD could become a Diplomat and teach the Chinese American hand signs.

That way in a few years we can buy Cali back from the Chinese after the rest of the population breaks the Chinese banks.

And they say I am a hick.

So the auto industry and the financial organizations admitted they could no longer make it on their own. Why did we not let them go under like a private business would have?

And they use California as the example to follow when they are passing their legislation.... tis truly an amazing group of idiots we have....... hope the elections have given us real hope to change or we are all destined to become a suburb of California.

What completely blows me, is that with the State of California so completely bankrupted.....the voters re-elected mostly the same band of spend-happy socialist do-gooders that got them there in the first place.... ::). Maybe we should just set a couple of charges in that big fault line down there and let it slip quietly into the ocean, giving CJ some new oceanfront property.... !

You know I am kidding right.... ;)!

California could learn alot from New Jersey Governor Chris Christie....that I'm not kidding about....!!
