I would install a 195/60R16. I believe that it would clear with no problems. However, I installed a Bridgestone Turanza EL400 size 175/65/16 on my 2001 Nomad. I have room to spare.

I would go with a narrower tire as well, the 175 or 195 width tires are more than wide enough.

Not being able to mount the belt guard would be the deal breaker for me.

That being said, after running the tire for a few miles check and see if there are any rubbing points. If there aren't you're probably fine leaving it. I would ether make a new or modify the original belt guard though. The belt is already susceptible to rocks etc. as is and can only imagine the trouble you may run into without the guard.

I am going to check with this guy and see if he has noticed any rubbing, and how many miles he has on it now. If no rubbing, I am going to go for it, probably just modify my belt guard...shave a few inches off with the dremel ;)

I'm with Jared on the new/modified guard. The 205 works fine on my '06 Shaft drive was on my list of deciding factors that moved me from HD/Victory to the Nomad.

Stock 170/70 16 is 119mm tall....195/60 is 117mm tall...I currently have a Dunlop 180/60 16 that is 108mm tall...this has killed my mpg and has me running the revs higher, and I have no idea how fast I am going...the stock spedo is incorrect already...I have run about 1k miles on this smaller tire, and would like to keep my odo somewhat accurate...the 205/60 is 123mm tall which should correct the speedo, and lower cruising RPMs ..it is also wider/taller which should = a little more cornering clearance, smoother ride, and longer life because it just flat out has more rubber there. If a 205 isn't safe or is too much trouble I guess ill just go with a 180/70 metzler or the stock size...I don't want to go shorter...a few hundred miles on this shorter tire, and I am sick of scraping, not having an idea on speed, and cruising over 3k on the highway all the time. You can get the measurements in inches by simply dividing any of the mm by 25.4...my current tire is about 1/2 in shorter than stock...and I have noticed a huge difference...mostly bad...it is nice to have new rubber on the bike though
