I have it. It's a built in FM antenna that picks up real time traffic alerts.

So thats why you were clueless again huh TC??!!!

I know what you guys are saying. My wife got excited when we heard the GPS can point us to nearby Starbucks :).

The prices have come down, new features are being added, the traffic updates, etc. sooner or later we're gonna get one, I think.

We might even get a cell phone, too.

I guess you have to subscribe to it.
It is traffic "ready". You would need to buy a traffic receiver (GTM-12) which comes with a subscription. Generally speaking, the newer nuvi units that come with lifetime traffic remove the need to buy a subscription by displaying the occasional advertisement.

If you have the GXM-30 (XM receiver) you can also add a traffic subscription for about $5/mo.

Historical traffic is a term that describes a database of average speeds on roads at different times. This can be used to avoid roads that are especially slow during typical rush hour times (for example).

I did a lot of research before buying a GPS for my bike, and I found the Nuvi 550 met my needs the best for the cheapest price (about $210 on ebay). It was the cheapest as far as models that you can load custom routes from your computer or download recommended routes from websites. It is water resistant. It is rated at 8 hours per charge (if you don't have a power connection). It also has Topographical maps so it can be used walking or hiking as well. It doesn't have some of the features that some of the higher priced ones such as bluetooth for the voice directions, but for me I have been very happy with it. It's mostly which GPS meets what you want it to do.

When I was reading for TC, looking for an answer for him, I found a Zumi 550 and it said the retail was $999.99! And it is fully loaded with everything. You do not need to add anything, ever. Is this what you bought for $210.00?
