What is the total to buy the add-ons?

I looked at that too. 23K+. When you compare to a K1200LT or Gold Wing, it's missing a lot of nice features for the same money, not mention it doesn't have the stonk the other two have or handle as well at speed. the conclusion I came to looking at and riding an Ultra was that they are pretty bikes, nice paint, fit and finish, have great low speed handling, but otherwise are behind about 10 years for sure. I haven't ridden the voyager, but that bike compares favorably with 5-6K less to spend than an EG Ultra.

What I found is that there are over $20K tourers and under $20K tourers. The HD belongs in the later and it's price knocks it out of consideration.

Actually I just read an article in rider magazine on the 2011 Road Glide Ultra. It's got the bigger frame mounted fairing and the 103 motor in it. Lots of extras for the middle low 20K region. Nice frickin' bike. Now if they came with a 5 year bumper to bumper warranty.....

Check out the 2011 CVO Road Glide Ultra, it has the 110" engine and will dent your wallet to the tune of about $36k.
thats totally off the radar for me! I liked the fact that the article stated at low rpm the 103 motor's different mounting has the engine not shaking near as much as last years 96 inch.

True it's light years behind the gold wing.... every bike is for that matter! Just trying to stay true to the V twins!.....

I like the fact that it's not water cooled and none of the "broken thermostat, water pump failure, leaking radiator and/or hoses" comes with the package. Simple by design.

I would say the K1200LT is right up there with it. It has a higher top speed, handles better, and is lighter. It also has some things the gold wing does not. That being said, the K1600GTL is coming out next year. 6 cylinder inline, 160HP, 129ft/lbs of torque and it should be a monster of a touring bike.

Ponch I came this close: to getting that Beemer boxer.... If the dealer hadn't try to slap an additional 800 bucks as I was ready to sign papers I'd have one...

I guess I was destined for Nomad Nation

The one thing that bothers me with BMW is that the lack of a large dealer network. We just got a local one here in Des Moines last year. The other 3 dealers are 120 miles east, west and 200 miles north west. In NY, we had 4 BMW dealers in a 25 miles radius. That lack of density creates a non-competative atmosphere, IE, we charge list. It also makes for a long drive just to test drive something. That being said, the new local dealer doesn't have the K1200LT in stock. Oh well. I really wanted the R1200GS Adventure, but the wife hates it.

I like the colors HD offers.
Anyone looked at or tried a Victory Vision or the Cross something or other?

I wouldn't buy a Harley if I wanted to go fast. Maybe a Vrod, but I don't really care for them.

I don't need sportbike fast, but it's nice to know if you had to scoot from 80 to 120+, you can and in a hurry.
