Went for a little (300 mile) ride yesterday

Beautiful fall weekend in New England this weekend. Temps near 80. No rain in the forecast. Not a cloud in the sky.

Sue and I decided to head north to the White Mountains to check out the foliage. Just getting started in some areas. Near peak in others. After a stop at Bretton Woods for lunch with our son and a ride up the chairlift, we headed over to the Mt Washington Auto Road.

Couldn't have asked for much better of a day for a ride to the summit. 58 F at the summit. Light winds. No clouds. Little hazy in the distance, but otherwise perfect.

Interesting ride down. Lost the rear brake about halfway, even though I was in first gear. But the vehicles in front of me were going really slowly, so I had to use it a little more than I would have otherwise. Suspect the fluid boiled. Got the rest of the way down with the front brake only, and the rear had recovered totally by the time we got to the bottom.

After we got down, we hit quite a bit of traffic heading back south towards home, so detoured across Hurricane Mountain Road to get around North Conway and Conway. Starting to get a little dark as we headed down Route 16.

With still another hour to go before home, we decided to pull into a little rest area along the shore of Lake Chocoura to watch the sunset. As we pull in, I notice another Nomad parked over to the side, and see someone resting against a tree looking out across the lake with a woman along the lake taking pictures. Geez, that looks an awful lot like Mac against the tree. And the woman sure looks a lot like Gwyn.

Had a great little rest stop, with the four of us chatting and watching the sunset over the lake. What a wonderful end to an absolutely perfect day.
