New again? From Eastern Ky

Hey everybody, I have been a member here for at least a couple of years and never got used to hanging here much and Forgot my username and password, Chuck from down in Bama and I have ridden some together and he recommended that this place is pretty good to hang out.

I ride a heavily modified 2005 1500 that you all will think is a nomad at first glance but it's a Classic in disguise. Looking forward to running into some more of you on the road and talking it up here while it's cold. I need to do some more work on my profile too , so, Denny says" hey "

Man Please! Never know who is gonna show up. It's my twin bother from another mother. Glad to see you join in. And Denny is right, he has definitely made that bike into one of a kind. She's sharp.

Indecently, Denny took the picture in my sign while on our ride in the mountains last year. Memory serves me right it was just about 10 minutes before I lost rear brake heading into a tight azz left turn about a 1/3 of the way through the Dragon. Front tire was squealing trying to slow the bike down. Don't think these bikes are suppose to be ridden that way but hey................Got to start planning for this years ride feller.

That's tempting but my daughter is getting married on the 25th, if I know her it's going to be all hands on deck.....for at least the prior month.

As far as the bike goes it's not that special if you own a Nomad but if you started with a Classic like I did and make most of your parts by hand or do a lot of adapting of other parts who knows what bike donated, it turns out to be heavily modified. I'll give a list of things I've done on the major things right here. In the front the Classic Trees are a bit narrower than a Nomad and caused a lot of extra work. I added an 86 thru 95 HD outer batwing shell with the help of a Memphis shades windshield bracket and a bunch of hardware store aluminum angle and strap metal. I got the fairing where I wanted it and set in on building the inner dash from scratch , more aluminum angle and a road sign that had been ran over and taken down is where I got the aluminum plate I needed and about two weeks of card board templates later I cut and hand bent the dash and fitted it up to the inside of the fairing satisfactorily I took the outer fairing off and sent it out for painting along with the factory Nomad Bags. I searched high and low for the whole bag frame work. Gave up on that and built my frames off of a set of saddlebag brackets laying around the garage. Back to the front, more on that later.

Moving back to the front , I wired in the fuse block and hooked it up on a relay to powere it up independent from the bike. It has a Jensen marine radio and an HD Sportster tach, power socket for charging and a cigar lighter in the dash and a pair of marine speakers( which need upgrading I might add) on each side. I tried to do the wire brush on a drill finish on the dash but gave that up and covered the dash in vinyl.

My driving lights are mounted on brackets made from more of the hardware stock that mount underneath the stock signal stalks . A did a lot of this because I'm for lack of a better term ,a tightwad, besides I spent too much time looking at stuf on Gadgets Fix it Page.

Moving down , I was wondering around eBay and saw some fender drop kits for Harley's on there for about sixty bucks. Turns out they were only two pieces of metal and four bolts. I just made some instead less than ten bucks if I hadn't had everything in "the pile" . My cost nothing but my time. While I was down there I was looking at those spoke wheels that I had come to hate with the spokes starting to rust and the rims pitting. Back to eBay for a set of 1500 Nomad wheels. The back one was a piece of cake, direct bolt on. The front one was a little work . I had to cut the spacers down to center the wheel back in place and this is the scary part, shave about 13 mm of the brake mounting bosses on the front fork leg to center the caliper on the disc. Major hurdles have been cleared. But I have written a novel here already . I'll post back up later I and start up another thread rather than have this ongoing here.
