I hope you pick a time and place that will allow me to make my first motorcycle trip into Canada.

2012 Rally, thoughts and suggestions

I can attest to the beauty of BC and Alberta....great choices for sure. I am still winding down from the Redwoods Rally and dealing with a hard drive issue on my main PC....so I'm kinda limited for a week or two until I get things resolved.

That said...it really never is too early to start thinking about rally plans, especially when it includes locking up sufficient lodging for attendees. A year in advance can assure you get the place you want....assuming the owner of the place is willing to have you... ;).

I have only spoken briefly to Joel about next year and did tell him that you were also interested in doing something. Nothing is in stone for sure...total liquid at this point, but I'm listening and happy to oblige in either event. I certainly understand the Canadian group wanting to get on the scoreboard with a rally of your own and totally respect that. Having said that....you still might have to deal with me as I would make every effort to attend if at all possible!

I have personal experience with a FANTASTIC hotel location that would be the PERFECT spot for a rally....and may eventually lean that way....even if it means doing our own NW thing. I like the idea of combining though as it brings more attendance. We here in the west are more challenged than our brothers in the east as we are so spread out in comparison, so it is harder to get the numbers than it might be in the eastern regions. Just sayin'....

Let's keep the ideas flowing for now, but for sure if your heart is leading you in a certain direction...just go with it....no worries from me or anyone else here in the NW. I will have to look up the area you are talking about as I have never been there....but I need my Desktop PC to really start investigating.

Good topic though and good to start kicking tires.... !

Rick-As I mentioned to you in CC, I am planning a ride to Canada next summer. The sooner a date has been decided the better. I will attempt to plan around that date so that I can stop in at least for a day.

I'd assume that August is the driest time of year up there, right? If that is the case, I'd think it would be the best time to do it. I can't imagine it would be too hot.

I hope you don't mind me putting in my $.02 worth. I'd really like to attend if at all possible.

Hey Rick
You're right, never to early to start planning an event like this. From the numbers that attended the NW rally in Kalispell last year and this years Redwood Rally, I definately think a combined effort would be the way to go. Together with our US brothers/sisters south or north of the border, or doing it alone up here, is fine for me. The more the merrier, you know. :) Whatever is decided, if I can help at all, let me know. I'm anxious to see how much response we'll get from Canadian riders about possible participation.

Thanks for looking after this!

Mike

I would be interested in the Rally. Holding the event in or around Kananaskis area as mentioned elswhere is a good idea. This Hotel/Casio hosted last years Ride For Site so they are motorcycle friendly so to speak.

Rick,
It sounds like you guys are heading in your own direction, which is very cool btw....and I am leaning toward Orofino, ID for next years event. The hotel there it top notch and so is the riding. It was my second choice for the 2010 rally but I went with Kalispell, MT, so I have already done a lot of the legwork for Orofino.

I spoke with Joel yesterday and am waiting for him to chat with his cohorts to see if they want to again collaborate or do something on their own. Combining would definitely bring more attendees and if Joel bows out, I may check with the North Central guys and inquire of their interest. Heck, I will probably do that anyways!

After missing my west coast ride this year, I am looking to do it next year (not getting any younger). This would tie in nice to that trip.
