30k milestone

My bike (2003) is about to hit the 30k miles mark (I got it with 28k miles).

I'm having some clutch slip, particularly in 3-4th gears if I'm heavy on the throttle. Was thinking of doing the Gadget trick with the stronger spring, but it occurs to me that at 30k miles perhaps a new clutch is not that far away (previous owner told me it was original clutch).

I'm not confident about a full clutch install myself, so this is probably going to be a workshop trip.

My question is, for those with 30k plus on their bikes, are the some other 'must do' service items for a Nomad with these miles ? Any obscure part like a shaft bearing or something that needs to be replaced around this time ?

Also is there a good way to judge the need for front shock oil replacement ? I've no experience with that either..

I'm not sure I trust the dealer, so want to go in with good information..

30k milestone

My clutch started to slip in the 38,000 mile mark, I replaced it with a Meanstreak spring and Judges washers and have never looked back. It feels better than new and has a much more positive feel to it. Its a simple job to replace yourself, don't be intimidated by it.
Just follow the recomended service times, and you will see if any parts are due to be replaced, more than likely not. Tires and brakes are probably all you need to look at.
It wouldn't hurt to change the fork oil now, I replaced mine with 15 weight oil to try to get rid of some of the mushy feel in the forks. My bike still dives under front braking more than Iwould like, next fork oil change will be 20 weight oil.

30k milestone

Thanks for the tips.. I looked at my Clymer manual for the clutch and shock jobs.. bigger jobs than I've attempted before, so I'm thinking it over.
