That was interesting, way more theory involved than I really wanted to read, but lots of good info. My personal reason is that the tire company's won't do a real life comparison is because there isn't a huge difference in the safety, they just use that as a reason not to recommend doing it,and a car tire will outlast a bike tire 3-4 times over at a lower cost.
Remember in the 70's when cars tires were made with polyester, you could spin them off the rims, because they wouldn't grip, and when they were cold they had flat spots in them until you drove a few miles. And yet they sold them, I doubt they would market such a tire today.
