Cruise control problem - FIXED!!

After I put my fairing on last week, my Audiovox CCS100 cruise control system ceased to function. It was working fine prior to installing the fairing. Since I had to run some wiring under the gas tank, my first thought was I had pinched a vacuum hose or maybe tightened a zip tie too tight and closed it off.

Today I pulled the tank, checked the vacuum hoses for kinks or pinching and found nothing unusual. My control panel switches work fine, which I verified by checking the voltages at the 10-pin connector on the servo unit. Everything checked out according to the troubleshooting page in the Audiovox manual. I hooked my Mighty-Vac up to the nipple on the servo and pumped it to 15 in/hg and it held the vacuum pressure just fine. I hooked the vacuum line going to the servo to the Mighty-Vac and it seems to be drawing a consistent amount of vacuum, increasing with the more throttle I give it.

So far, everything I have checked appears to be okay, so it looks like my problem may be mechanical, ie: the throttle cable from the servo unit itself. I was kind of hoping that pumping the Mighty-Vac while connected to the servo would pull the throttle cable, but I don't know if that's how it's supposed to work. It was just a SWAG (scientific wild-a$$ guess).

Anybody else have any suggestions?

Does the red led light on the servo function as per Gadgets instructions?

Scott, since I don't have one can't be of any help. I know you will get it figured out though. Good luck. Be sure and let us know.

Is there anway to manually over ride the servo, and run the cable by hand? If so, will it hold rpm then? Will the brakes release it then?

Other than checking that there is almost no play in the servo cable, try to see if the vacumm is pulling the servo cable. If it isn't pulling the cable Id suspect the servo is defective.
There is a 800 ph number to Audiovox where they help will help you diagnose the problem as well.

My only guess is that there is excess play in the cable or something like that.

I did have a little play in the throttle cable, I adjusted the cable clamp to tighten it up. I have not been able to re-test it. I need to go buy some gas this morning and I'll try it then.

Since it worked fine before I added the fairing and didn't after, I seriously doubt the servo itself is bad. That would be too odd of a coincidence. I have checked all the electrical functions and they all are okay. I've checked for vacuum, vacuum leaks in my system, and if the servo can hold vacuum - all are okay. Maybe I had the hose pinched behind the left cover or something.

Well, I'll report back after I take it out this morning.

Scott, you didn't by any chance switch to a LED brake light bulb did you? Mine wouldn't work until I figured out a way to lie to it, when I installed mine in combo with the LED bulbs.

Nope. No LED brake lights.

arrrgh! Still no luck. I have a spare servo unit that I may swap in. Back when I was buying up all the cc systems I could get my hands on, I bought one that was missing parts, so I kept it because I didn't feel right selling an incomplete system.

Now I have a full tank of gas, so that won't be for a couple of days.

If you have a throttle lock set it and reach down where the cable connects to the throttle body, then try to set the cruise control and you should be able to feel it pull the cable. Perhaps the linkage is jammed there.

Good tip....I wound up disconnecting mine because I never could get the cable bracket secured good to prevent slipping. Plus I was not able to set it if going faster than 65 indicated. I just use my throttle lock for now until I get psyched back into messing with it!
