Seat padding help
So I had an idea of adding foam to my passenger seat for my wife before I bite the bullet on a Mustang seat. I took the seat apart. Was going to cut off about two inches and add the new pad. Made a template and made the pad. But nerves got to me about cutting the factory pad. So I was able to put the new pad on top of existing and managed to get the cover back on. It's a little softer but I feel it is just compressed because it is so tight. I'm going to have to cut the original foam. Now my question is. Should I cut the whole layer 2 inches or just the majority section like a whole and leave the factory outer perimeter? Thought? Has anyone dine this?

I would try leaving the outer perimeter first. If that bothers her for some reason you can either put the foam back in the original space or cut the whole layer and replace that.
I have experimented with many of my seats. It takes time and patience to get it right.

Depending on the shape of the seat I would think an inch and a half to two inches around the outsides and back and maybe an inch in the front.
You still want some support on the sides.

If what you are trying with the stock seat does not work don't bother with a Mustang seat, go straight to the best seat available, a Russell Daylong seat. I have had Mustangs, an OEM gel seat on my Kawasaki 1700, an Airhawk pad, and a Saddlemens gel seat. None come close to the comfort of a Daylong seat.

Do a google search for "Astech Seat Video" for some reason the video speed is fast so just click settings and select a slower speed.
I sent ours off last month and we could not be happier ! I posted up "Seats" last week here. and also "Sent Our Seats Off" just search the site here. |

Saw a video where they put a square gel pad in. I wonder where a guy can get that. I was going to try high density foam

You can buy gel pads here.
https://www.saddlemen.com/saddlegel-...comfort-pads-1 If you go to a good foam store they sell foam in different densities. Try a 2565 or 2545 foam to see if this is what you need. 2565 is firmer than 2545. http://www.thefoamstore.ca/about_foam.php You could also make a larger seat pad. Larger at the top where the wife sits and tapering down to match the seat pan. An electric carving knife is good for roughing out the foam. If you go with a larger seat an upholsterer can make you a new cover from marine grade vinyl. Make the foam that suits the wife then let her try it before having a cover made. A 120 grit flapper type (4 or 5 inch for an electric grinder) wheel is good for contouring the foam after the foam has been roughed out with the carving knife. You can buy spray on foam adhesive to add pieces of foam or to put back foam you have cut off. https://fabricville.com/us/470-feath...-adhesive.html |

I'm still trying to decide how far in to cut from the factory line. My only concern cuttint in 1 1/2 to 2 incest is she will feel the edge do from soft to hard. I realize i would lose support/structure on the sides.Thought?

What is it that your wife does not like about the stock seat ?
Too hard, too wide, not enough padding ? |

It's hard as a rock . No give to it at all. She's about 120 lbs and bounews in the air when I hit a bump. So basically needs to be softer. Trif more padding but still to hard under. That's why I was planning on cutting/replacing before buying a new seat.

Take the wife to a foam store and have her sit on various density's of foam and choose the one that suits her best. Then shape that piece of foam to match the original using the methods I described earlier and replace the old foam with the new foam.
