Rubber grommets for backrest holes

So I searched on here and found several posts on around installing the backrest bracket. I did not find any details on if anyone used any grommets. Thought that would be a good idea to prevent chips or wear from taking the backrest on and off if you "accidentally" hit the fender outing it on. But maybe not..?? I know slow and careful but accidents do happen. For those that have installed the bracket did you just leave it as is after you drilled the holes?

I have mine ordered so trying to do all the research I can before it gets here. There also seems to be many opinions on the hole sizes. Thanks for any and all responses.

Most the backrests that I have seen are designed to fit without having to drill additional holes. Which backrest did you buy?

I am talking about the backrest mounting kit. You drill the holes for that. That is what I have coming. Sorry about confusion.

Naaa...grommets aren't needed. The part of the mount that goes through the trim piece doesn't move relative the trim piece, and the mounting points are far enough away that you need to be looking in another direction to hit the plastic.
